Bio-Identical Hormones
As Featured on "Oprah" and "Dr. Phil"

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is the use of supplemental doses of hormones that have a chemical structure identical to the hormones that the human body naturally produces such as specific types of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. The week of January 12, Dr. Phil and Oprah broadcast shows dedicated to informing women that BHRT is an option if they are concerned about or have had problems using non-bio-identical synthetic (or horse) hormones.
On "The Oprah Winfrey Show" which aired in most U.S. markets on January 15, Robin McGraw (Dr. Phil's wife and a BHRT patient) and Christiane Northrup, MD (renowned author and speaker) shared the stage for the majority of the show. Robin described how through extensive research and with the help of a compounding pharmacist, she found natural ways to battle menopausal symptoms and turned the "change of life" into a positive experience. Oprah interviewed several patients who were experiencing severe menopausal symptoms. Dr. Northrup discussed the science behind several of the major hormones, drug options and some of the basic differences between the categories of available drugs. Dr. Prudence Hall, a gynecologist in Santa Monica, California, reviewed the tools used for diagnosis.
On Thursday, January 29, Oprah will continue the discussion on BHRT with Suzanne Somers, who has been an active supporter of bio-identical hormones. The segment will highlight Dr. Frank Oz' visit to a compounding pharmacy, and is expected to include a demonstration of how customized hormones are prepared.
