Health Tip: Progesterone Cream May Enhance Skin Elasticity and Firmness
For many years topical progesterone has been prescribed as an anti-aging and skin-firming treatment. A well-designed study evaluated the effects of 2% progesterone cream on function and texture of the skin in peri- and postmenopausal women, while also measuring skin elasticity, skin hydration, and blood hormone levels. The researchers reported that after 16 weeks, women who applied progesterone cream had a significant improvement in skin elasticity and firmness, but the benefit did not occur in the group that used a similar cream without progesterone. The 2% progesterone cream showed consistent superiority over the cream base alone in counteracting different signs of aging in the skin, such as wrinkles. Although the progesterone was well absorbed, it did not significantly raise blood levels of the hormone. No serious side-effects of the treatment were observed.

Nutritional Support: Magnesium

capsulesMagnesium is a mineral that is needed for proper muscle, nerve, and enzyme function, and is essential for good health. Medication conditions related to magnesium deficiency include hypertension, heart arrhythmias, diabetes, osteoporosis, migraines, premature ejaculation, premenstrual syndrome, and insomnia. Appropriate supplementation should consider the quality of the supplement including how much of that form of magnesium is absorbed by the body, as less absorbable forms can cause diarrhea. Other drug therapy should be reviewed by the pharmacist to be sure that medications do not interact with magnesium prior to supplementation. Ask our pharmacist which form of magnesium will best suit your needs.

Compounding Tip: Protect your Access to Customized Medications
Compounded medications solve countless problems for patients who cannot take or have not responded to commercially available drugs. Protect your physician's freedom to prescribe and your access to customized medications. Respected members of Congress have introduced resolutions which affirm that physicians are in the best position to determine which medications are most appropriate for their patients and that the FDA should respect this important physician-patient relationship.  Encourage your Senator to support S. Con. Res. 88 and your Representative to support H. Con. Res. 342. Visit www.savemymedicine.org for more information.
