How can I guide my child to behave in the classroom?
Greetings!

That was the question Cindy asked me recently about her son Erik, and the answer is to first ask two basic questions:

  1. Is your Maverick getting at least 80 percent correct consistently?
  2. Is your Maverick happy at school?

If the answer to either of these questions is NO, then it is highly likely that the result is going to either mis-behavior, or withdrawal.

If that is the case, we need to find out why the child is getting answers wrong or is unhappy.

Language processing is the usual cause

A survey of over 1,600 teachers revealed that the biggest problem with success and happiness in school was a language processing interference. In other words, if a child is having problems processing language, the result is going to be poor performance in school -- whether it is a math or English or history class. And the result of performing poorly in school is usually low self-esteem and unhappiness, which can then lead to unacceptable classroom behavior.

This is because Maverick Children, like Erik are highly visual and their visual thinking is fighting the verbal processors.  When this happens the brain can default to a fight or flight response and the child can either act out or withdraw.

There ARE solutions!

If indeed poor academic performance and unhappiness are the result of verbal attention, memory and processing problems, then there are many remedies we can implement.

Call today to schedule a free initial screening with me, and we can discuss how to improve your child's school experience and performance.

Dr. Cheri L. Florance
Dr. Cheri Florance pioneered the scientific basis for Brain Engineering to address language and communication problems originating in a strong visual brain interfering with the development of the auditory-verbal brain, sometimes mimicking the symptoms of Autism Spectrum, ADD, PDD, Aspergers and other disorders. She named this visual brain syndrome the "Maverick Mind," and wrote the book Maverick Mind based on her findings and her personal experience with her third child who was diagnosed as autistic, but who is now a college graduate and engineer, and completely symptom-free.

Dr. Florance now has an international practice, working with Mavericks all over North America and Europe, as well as Greece, Cyprus, Indonesia, South Africa, and South Korea.
