Readers Survey
I'm also wondering what plans parents have for their children this summer. How are you planning to use the summer to help your child prepare for the 2011-2012 school year?
That's another question on the Readers Survey.
I hope that you will respond not only to share your thoughts, opinions and experiences with me. I would also like to compile the overall results and share them with readers.
What is the average amount of time that parents must devote to the special needs of their child, outside the usual family routines?
What is the average amount that parents are spending on therapy and extra support and medical help, on behalf of their child?
Wouldn't you like to know how your situation compares with others?
Take the Survey, and watch for the results in an upcoming newsletter.

"Maverick Minds" - The Complete Book on Twitter
Over the years, so many people have told me, or emailed me to say, that my book Maverick Mind changed their lives. The book chronicles the story of my third child, Whitney, who was diagnosed as a toddler with autism, deafness and severe retardation. His story - our story - resonates with any parent who has doubted that the system is providing the best support, not to mention diagnosis, for their child.
My experience as a speech and language pathologist and brain scientist is what gave me the courage to trust my instincts to ignore much of the professional advice I was given at the time, and pursue a course of therapy that addressed what I could see was Whitney's real problem: an overly-strong visual brain interfering with the language-processing side of his brain, causing symptoms that mimicked the symptoms of autism.
The short story: After a monumental struggle, Whitney was mainstreamed, became a college graduate, and is now an engineer, and completely symptom-free. And I am still applying the principles I developed to resolve Whitney's symptoms in my training programs with Mavericks all over the world
The longer story -- about 300-pages -- is how we got to that point. So, follow me on Twitter as the Maverick Mind story is told, one tweet at a time, over the next year. The tweets will appear on Facebook as well.
You'll find me on Twitter at "braindr" and on Facebook at "facebook.com / ebrainlabs."
