Have you had an "Aha!" moment?
BRAINSTORMS LEAD TO BRAIN CHANGES
Greetings!

TopHave you ever had one of those moments when it feels like there is literally a light bulb shining above your head? That's an "Aha!" moment.

I see this a lot at Brain Engineering Labs because our program is so involved in training the brain to use energy and skills that were previously blocked or under-developed.

With children, the result is unlocking the key to fluency in language and communication, excelling in school, and living in harmony with family and friends.

For the adults I work with, an Aha! moment leads to an increase in productivity and success in their career, or new creativity for solving problems and developing the business they own.

Research has shown that these "Aha!" moments are clearly marked by a surge of activity in the brain, and that's what gives you the feeling of having a light bulb turn on over your head.

Oprah Winfrey has a web page devoted to Aha! moments. And Mutual of Omaha has a whole web site devoted to the sharing of stories about Aha! moments, which they define as "A moment of clarity, a defining moment when you gain real wisdom - wisdom you can use to change your life."

Read below about Maverick Mom Patricia's Aha! moment, when she recalled all the very visual experiences she had as a child and teen-ager, and realized that she wasn't just "different" - she was an Opticoder, someone whose brain thinks primarily in pictures. Another client, Doctor N, realized her visual brain works many times faster than her verbal brain, as demonstrated in the illustration of a Visual vs. a Verbal Brain.

And read about my own Aha! moment, when I realized my child was a highly visual thinker - a Maverick Mind - and not autistic, deaf, and retarded, as the "experts" had told me.

Please send me your own Aha! moments. I would love to hear about them and share with our readers. What have you discovered about how your own brain works?

PatriciaPatricia's Aha! Moment: I'm an Opticoder!

Patricia, the parent of one of the children I work with, wrote to me recently about an Aha! moment she had experienced. In the process of watching her child's brain and language skills develop and flourish, Patricia had begun to recall her own family history and realize (Aha!) how very visual her family was, especially her father, and what a strong visual brain she had herself.  In the language of brain engineering, Patricia realized she was an Opticoder.

"My Dad owned an audio visual business ... we were constantly surrounding our lives with music, theatre and movies ...  We had 16mm films shown in our living room from thetime I was born in 1950 and naturally got a TV as soon as they were available. Dad was musically savvy. We had jazz, symphonic, classical, pop film soundtracks playing frequently throughout my childhood and teens."

"In Grade 4, although I had never used a typewriter, but I had watched my Dad use his at home, so I asked if I could use it to write my project notes [for a medical book report for school]. The presentation including a real hypodermic needle, suture material, samples of gauze bandages etc. and no one else in the class used a typewriter for their reports."

"My Dad always observed that I usually sat and 'observed' things and then 'did them.' I used to drive my Mum to the edge of madness because I wouldn't use a pattern for sewing ... and usually didn't follow recipes for cooking."

In those days I thought it was just my unique personality coming out, but it was also that my Opticoder was so much more available than my Lexicoder. Word problems were a handicap of mine ... whereas Geometry and math tables were a cynch.

drNDr. N: "The words don't come so fast ..."

Dr. N, a surgeon, is currently in one of my brain engineering programs. Very quickly after starting her training, Dr. N wrote,

"I am thinking about real life situations and I know that when I am concentrating in the OR [operating room] it is easier for me to just reach for the instrument I need rather than say its name, because sometimes coming up with its name, especially for a tool I don't use too often, takes too long. It's faster to just grab it."

In her BE Labs training program, Dr. N quickly began to realize how her brain worked:  "The words don't come so fast especially when I'm concentrating on a physical task. I have a hard time doing two things at once."

What Dr. N was learning (Aha!) is that the visual brain is very, very fast. The visual brain works about 20,000 times faster than the verbal/auditory brain.

In Dr. N's case, she had a Visual IQ that was off the charts, and superior intuition (very fast data management) on the job.  Like Maverick Mom Patricia, she was discovering that she was an Opticoder, a highly visual thinker.

cfDr. Florance's Aha! Moment

"Did Whitney have a disease that would need a cure? Or did he have symptom clusters that would respond to symptom training, so that he could become symptom-free?"

That was  the question I asked myself when, after 15 years of work and research in the brain science of language and communication disorders, my third child was diagnosed with severe autism, mental retardation, and sensory integration problems.

I can't begin to tell you in a few short words the heartbreak and agony that I -- and my family -- endured at the time. However, using my skills as a professional, as well as my love as a mother for her child, I was able to find the answer to my question.

Whitney did, indeed, have symptoms, and these symptoms led me to discover that the visual side of Whitney's brain was over-riding the language-processing side of his brain-imitating autism. His strong visual brain was preventing the development of his language and communications skills.

This was a breakthrough moment in my scientific career -- the biggest Aha! moment of my life.

I identified this syndrome as the Maverick Mind, and told the story of my discovery and Whitney's recovery in my book Maverick Mind.

I began developing learning exercises that worked to build a better bridge between the visual and verbal regions of Whitney's brain. And Whitney's older brother and sister joined in training their younger brother. He began to respond, gradually learning to speak and write and communicate. Before long, he entered a mainstream educational system.

Today, Whitney is a college graduate, working as an engineer. And he is symptom-free.

FREE SCREENING

Brain AMP no wordsThe purpose of the screening is to do an initial assessment to determine if your child would be a good candidate for Brain Engineering programs where Dr. Florance herself will customize a program appropriate for your child's learning needs.

The screening is done by telephone and takes about 30 minutes.

To schedule a free screening, call or email:

1-866-865-9820, ext 2 - brainengineeringlabs@gmail.com

OR schedule the appointment yourself using our online calendar!

Click on the button below, select a day and time that's convenient, and Tia will call you then.

Thank you for reading. If your child has been diagnosed with symptoms related to a strong visual brain interfering with his or her ability to develop language skills, there is a good prognosis for your child becoming symptom-free through our programs.

I look forward to hearing from you,
