School Winners: How you start is how you finish
Greetings!

Researchers in the field of child education always say "How you start is how you finish."

This describes the importance of managing the difficult transition Mavericks face when leaving their summer days behind to start a new school year --  with new teachers, new classmates, and new subject matter.

Because we want all Mavericks to be school WINNERS, we are offering our "How To Be A School Winner " Webinar .

The webinar is for those who are interested in becoming a Brain Engineering Client.  You will have a chance to test-drive our virtual training tools.

Those selected to attend will receive a free introductory package, customized for their child.

The School Winners Webinar will be held Tuesday, September 14 from 1:30 to 2:30 EST (NY Time). To sign up, fill out an application form by clicking HERE.

Maverick  Winners Process Language
Here is what some of the parents in our program have written about their childrens' progress:

"We did Strega Nona today. She did GREAT! I didn't even ask her to repeat back what she heard, but she did anyway. And she predicted, etc. She kept her attention very well and had fun."

"My daughter asked if we could get some books on tape for her to go to sleep with. She told me, 'that would help my listening skills!' "

"My son recently said that he feels like his brain finally knows what to do with all the information that was just noise before. He's hearing things he was never tuned into and sorting through and prioritizing the things he was hearing and couldn't process."

"I have noticed that my daughter has been picking up on unusual words or phrases that I say or someone else says and using them shortly after, practicing their use ... she says that she is able to hear her inner voice, sees more words in her mind to go with her pictures, has a new interest in the dictionary of all things!"

Maverick Winners Self-Manage

"We find him to be much more patient and eager to do his work in fact he often asks, 'Mom can we work on the Dr. Florance stuff?' "
One teenager in the program was especially interested in money - for the purchase of "non-essential items"  -- and had his own bank and stock accounts. So I suggested that they set up an Excel spreadsheet for tracking his earnings.  His mother thought this was a great idea, and later reported that his "memory and retrieval" are becoming stronger very quickly in his sessions."

Another child was more interested in the natural world, and one day found a salamander while working in the yard with his father. His mother wrote:
"He asked if he could Google the habitat for a salamander (... this was different - he wanted to learn something on his own!).  After reading and learning he built a habitat using his old wagon, adding mud, leaves and water. He even found two snails for its 'snack.' He's never done this before. This reminded me of the Brain Engineering sequencing he has been learning."

In brain science, this means the child wasn't just adopting a pet salamander. He had used his input and output processors - reading and then talking to complete the task. It was a really terrific learning moment.
"My son loved watching Meredith's Lego rendition of Leonardo's life. Legos have been a lifeline for him for years and I think he was starting to think he was too old for them. Of course, we keep reminding him that you never see Legos in the garbage, so they must be a pretty valuable toy. Now, he's offering all his friends money to take their Legos off their hands. We found on the internet that they are even used in executive training in business."

Maverick Winners' Self Esteem
"She took one quick refresher toward the end, but jumped back in (we talked about the whole Circle of Willis before class). When class was over, I told her what a great job she did and she proudly said, 'And I'm not even tired!' It amazes me that at her age she can so understand the theory part and be able to diagnose herself. She is very happy with herself."

"We finished the Listening Workbook. We had a nice warm and fuzzy experience catching tadpoles and we're now taking care of them. Per your suggestion, I've been working hard to just have nice and easy, warm and fuzzy days."

"My daughter still likes talking about her accomplish-ments. Last night she said her best accomplishment is all her accomplishments put together. Ha!"

"I notice that my daughter is doing a lot of impromptu experiments. We were at the pool a few days ago and she was doing some experiment with buckets balancing in the water. She just seems to be 'thinking' about things more purposely ... seems to have internalized her 'special gift' and is interested in inventing things ... confident in her observation skills and really using them."

Free Screening
Brain AMP no words
The purpose of the screening is to do an initial assessment to determine if your child would be a good candidate for Brain Engineering programs.

The screening is done by telephone and takes about 30 minutes.

To schedule a free screening, call or email:

Create a Maverick Support Network
We published this item in our last newsletter, but it bears repeating.

One of the most important goals of brain engineering is to create a learning environment in which the child feels safe to explore their newfound abilities and encouraged to take the next steps. It is so important for the child's immediate and extended family to be involved and supportive in this process:
"The bonding has been incredible and it has changed our complete family dynamic from one based more on reaction, anger, and frustration to one based on mutual understanding, empathy, and respect. Like all families, we aren't perfect, but any setbacks we do have are fewer and far between and can be quickly resolved. We couldn't ask for more."

"I have truly enjoyed the classes, the sharing of info, the encouragement, the fascinating lessons of why some (my own family!) learn differently than others.  I have shared this info 'around town' and know it has helped bring understanding to other folks/kids too - thanks!"

It is also important for Maverick children and their families to reach out to other Mavericks and their families, to share their experiences and successes and create a Maverick support network:

"My daughter finally got a chance to talk to [another Maverick child] about how fun the Maverick program is because the other child was expressing a lot of anxiety about what would happen. It was a thrill to see my daughter talking so confidently to her about how her anxiety went away and how she feels so much better now. She was very confident, proud, and happy to encourage her on ... I thought this showed a lot of maturity."
"I used something called Survey Master on Facebook. We received three responses --- one is from a young lady who I met from a Facebook synesthesia group. She has a lot of anxiety and has been writing a lot on Facebook about her problems in life. I asked her to take the survey and as I suspected, she seems to be very Maverick. Her Mom is looking into it. I felt so great that I could help her try to turn around her outlook from negative to positive. In just a short conversation, I could see her looking at her synesthesia more as a gift than a negative ... That is such a huge lesson that you have taught me and I thank you."

"I'm so grateful for meeting other kids and parents who are going through this. People who are as determined as we are to break through the negativity and paradigms that were suppressing the incredible talents and contributions these kids have to offer. It is incredibly empowering for all of us."

It is also highly important to involve those who are responsible for your child's schooling to know and understand what it is to be a Maverick. In fact, a large part of our program involves teaching parents how to be their child's best advocate, and becoming educated about the science behind brain engineering.

Many times, I have asked that the child's teacher join in a session, or allow the child to come to the classroom and help set up the room before the semester begins - something that I did with my own Maverick child, Whitney. It is just as important to educate those who make up a child's support group, as it is to educate the individual child:

"I just saw that our Principal became a fan on the Facebook Page and will be learning so much more about Mavericks.  How FANTASTIC!"

Why I Do What I Do
I love my work, even after over 35 years of working with Maverick Minds. I feel almost as proud as the child's parent when I see the successes and accomplishments, growth and change, because I have been there with a Maverick child myself.

And occasionally, a parent will write something that makes me feel even more pride:

"Where would our children be without Dr. Florance... I don't want to think about it!"

Thank you for reading. If your child has been diagnosed with symptoms related to a strong visual brain interfering with his or her ability to develop language skills, there is a good prognosis for your child becoming symptom-free through our programs.

I look forward to hearing from you.
