Meredith's Story: Mavericks and Legos
Greetings!

This is a story about Meredith, a pre-teen Maverick, and how brain engineering and using Legos helped improve Meredith's life.

Also, be sure to read about the "Back to School" webinar workshop we are planning. The first 6 weeks of a new school year are the "Make It Or Break It" weeks, in terms of teacher relationships and perceptions. There's lots you can do to help your child make the big transition from summer to a new school year.  More information below.

Meredith's Story
Meredith started working with me a few months ago. Her mother described Meredith's symptoms at that time as including:
  • Anxieties, including extreme sensitivity to visual media
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Frequent emotional meltdowns
  • Inattention, difficulty following directions
  • Seemingly oppositional behavior
  • Inconsistent academic performance, not retaining material
  • Trouble understanding teacher's lessons
  • Difficulty reading sentences correctly and comprehending correct meaning
  • Difficulty with written expression, frequent misspelling of common words
  • Continued difficulty learning music notes after five years of piano lessons
  • Frequent bullying at school and problems with classmates
  • Misreading people and describing things that they never actually said

These symptoms caused problems for Meredith and hindered her progress in school. But they also caused problems for her family, including the relationship between her parents.

Leonardo Da Vinci, Another Maverick Mind
At first, Meredith was focused on the negative aspects of having a communication disorder and was getting discouraged and depressed.

To encourage her to see the positive aspects of being a Maverick, I gave Meredith and her mother the assignment of studying historical Mavericks like Leonardo Da Vinci, with the goal of showing Meredith that some of the world's greatest thinkers were Mavericks, and that being a Maverick is a unique gift.

Meredith loved this idea. Her mother helped her make a PowerPoint presentation to tell why she thought Leonardo was a Maverick:
  • He was was VERY curious
    He LOVED art and music
  • He could DRAW very, very, very, very good, good grapes and other things when he was only two years old.
  • People said he DAYDREAMED because he always wanted to go outside and get more ideas.
  • He liked the CREATION process more than the actual "doing" process.

You can view Meredith's Powerpoint presentation by clicking HERE.

Meredith then went a step further. Using Legos for her materials, she created a village where Leonardo lived and worked. She even included his paintbox and easel, all made from Legos.

And then, her mother helped Meredith film a little video about Leonardo's village. You can see it on our Facebook page by clicking HERE.

Meredith after Brain Training
Meredith is now proud to be a Maverick and progressing quickly through her Brain Engineering Labs training program. Her mother wrote to me that the differences after training include:
  • Meredith says that she feels more like herself and can now "Talk to the world."
  • She is happy her parents and teachers finally understand her.
  • She is asking for clarification of vocabulary words, is excited to read the dictionary, is labeling her mental pictures with words, and beginning to hear her inner voice talking -- all indications of a verbal pathway beginning to function better.
  • She is able to function normally after tapering off psychiatric care and behavioral counseling. She is no longer taking anxiety medication or ADHD medication. And because we now know the root cause of behavior issues, we can address them ourselves and we no longer see the need for counseling.
  • She is able to advocate for herself if she doesn't understand something instead of faking it, giving up, or keeping it inside. She asks for family meetings if she needs it.
  • Meredith learned how to refresh her brain on her own if she is stressed or lacking energy by doing visual activities or cardio exercise.
  • Meredith's self-esteem is improving as she learns about her gifts and what she has in common with great visual thinkers, like Albert Einstein and Leonardo da Vinci, as well as her father and other extended family members.
This could be your child, if he or she is struggling with communication, language, learning and behavior. If so, please do make an appointment for a free screening with my assistant, Tia Zorne (link below and top right of screen).

And don't forget to read about our upcoming "Back to School" workshop below.

Free Screening
Brain AMP no words
The purpose of the screening is to do an initial assessment to determine if your child would be a good candidate for Brain Engineering programs.

The screening is done by telephone and takes about 30 minutes.

BackToSchool   UPCOMING WEBINAR WORKSHOP

The first six weeks of a new school year are the "Make It or Break It" weeks in terms of teacher relationships and perceptions.

Studies have shown that many conscious and subconscious beliefs about students are formed by faculty in the first two weeks and are confirmed in the following four weeks.

We want our Mavericks to walk in the door of their new classroom with a sense of confidence, full of performance productivity and promise. We want them to look forward to the new school year.

We are planning a Webinar Workshop in early August to give parents the tools they need to help their children with this big transition from summer to a new school year.

Stay tuned!
In our next newsletter we will announce the date and time.

Thank you for reading. If your child has been diagnosed with symptoms related to a strong visual brain interfering with his or her ability to develop language skills, there is a good prognosis for your child becoming symptom-free through our programs.

I look forward to hearing from you.
