Entrepreneurs and the Highly Visual Brain
Entrepreneurs are a special breed. Their highly visual brains are the
source of their visionary ideas. The highly visual brain is a very
sophisticated thinking engine that can run much more rapidly than the
verbal brain. Yet, in both business and the arts, people who are highly
visual are often the people who struggle the most to fit into society,
despite becoming highly successful when they are able to find a place
where their creative ideas thrive. The barrier that most intrudes upon
the entrepreneur is a lack of understanding, since so much of the
business world - just like the world of education - is geared to the
development of verbal effectiveness.
One of the many
entrepreneurs I've worked with is the founder and CEO of his own very
successful company. He also advises entrepreneurs in their businesses,
and is a professor of business at a big Midwestern university, where he
teaches students to become entrepreneurs. His business serves a
worldwide clientele, many of whom are international superstars in
athletics and the entertainment industry, and who come from all
nationalities and cultures.
In 2002, this entrepreneur hired
me to make his company of attorneys, accountants, business leaders, and
financial planners "brain-friendly." His stated goal was to make his
company paperless, virtual, and easily global for helping entrepreneurs
become successful and for managing the wealth of the company's clients.
As he described the problem himself:
"As a highly visual
inventive thinker, I could forecast my vision for taking my company to
the next level easily, but my team of experts could not. So Dr.
Florance first set up a training program in Brain Engineering for me.
We examined how my brain functioned, using her Brain Print technology,
and then we developed a plan so that, as the CEO, I could begin to use
brain-friendly strategies to persuade and engage my team."
One
of this entrepreneur's team members, however, a highly trained and very
insightful attorney, said to me, "Don't pay too much attention to our
boss. He has a new idea every day. This will pass." Apparently, that
was the general attitude in their corporate culture at the time.
So,
I developed a 6-week training program in which each member analyzed
their own brain engineering and developed strategies to envelope the
NEW, to move ahead with gusto to create innovation and profit. I
attended staff meetings, and facilitated his team's ability to
brainstorm, develop, and unify their plans. As the entrepreneur
describes it:
"Because we became a 'Brain Friendly' team, we
easily improved our ability to accept change and maintain our status as
the 'first, best, and only' in the industry. Because of Dr. Florance's
impact, we became a virtual company that can serve clients worldwide,
as well as train entrepreneurs across cultures."
Recently, this
