LEGISLATURE CONVENES 2012 REGULAR SESSION
|
The gavels sounded on Tuesday calling the 2012 regular session of the Alabama Legislature to order. That evening, the Governor gave a grim analysis of the state's finances during his annual State of the State address. Looming budget shortfalls, according to the Governor, will result in cuts from 10% to as deep as 25% or more to most state agencies. Despite the financial distress facing the state, Governor Bentley pledged to oppose any attempt to fill in the gaps with tax increases, a much welcomed commitment to a recession-weary public.
A number of issues will arise during session that has the potential to affect the home building industry. Among those is the specter of eliminating, or vastly reducing, the right of redemption time on commercial loans under foreclosure.
Throughout the session, the HBAA will keep you informed of the legislation that it is monitoring on your behalf with its weekly Legislative Alert.
