HBAA SUCCESSFUL AS SESSION ENDS

The HBAA enjoyed an extremely successful legislative session passing bills that will benefit the industry while heading off those that would have hurt. The HBAA was succeeded in passing long sought after relief from inventory taxes and was able to hold off the bank-initiated right of redemption legislation.
The HBAA will provide a comprehensive overview of the legislative session next week. Included in the overview will be a breakdown on the newly enacted immigration law.

LANDLORD TENANT PASSES IN FINAL MINUTES OF SESSION

With only minutes remaining in the 2011 legislative session, the landlord tenant bill was delivered to the Governor, having passed the House. The HBAA and the Realtors had two amendments they wanted to add to the bill in the House, but with time running out and an ongoing filibuster in the Senate, it was decided to forgo amendments to ensure passage of this important legislation.

GOVERNOR BENTLEY SIGNS IMMIGRATION LAW

Governor Robert Bentley signed the immigration legislation into law on Thursday. Touted as the toughest immigration law in the nation, questions linger as to how the new law will affect businesses in the state.
Members will undoubtedly have questions concerning the legislation. How will this affect me? When does it go into effect?
The HBAA is reviewing the provisions of the new law in order to provide the members with the answers. Over the next few weeks, the HBAA will be developing training to help members cope with the new law.
