HBAA Legislative Alert
BUILDING CODE BILL WILL BE ON TUESDAY'S HOUSE CALENDAR
HBAA's highest priority legislation has been placed on a special order calendar which, when adopted by the House of Representatives on Tuesday, will be up for consideration and final passage by mid afternoon.

An HBAA substitute for Senate Bill 315, sponsored by Marc Keahey from Grove Hill, was given a favorable report from the House Commerce committee this week.  The substitute mirrors the bill passed in the Senate with an additional technical amendment that clarifies the administrative role of Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) in regards to the Energy and Building Code board.

HBAA has had an absolute "buy-in" from members across the state who individually contacted their legislators at home and who traveled to Montgomery on two separate occasions to work the halls and chambers of the Alabama Legislature to push for passage of this legislation into law.

Tuesday will be a big day!  While it is not a call to action to come to Montgomery next week, President Cliff Pitman wants to encourage members who have followed this legislation so closely and who have committed so much time and energy to help move the legislation to come Tuesday, have lunch, and once again walk the halls and to be in the chamber when the vote is cast.

If you would like to participate on Tuesday, please RSVP via email to Suzanne Hager by noon on Monday.  Send your RSVP to

HBAA SAYS GOODBYE TO LONGTIME FRIEND
The HBAA is deeply saddened by the passing of longtime HBAA friend Representative Warren Beck.  Representative Beck was a staunch supporter of the home building industry and business community.  As a member of the House Commerce Committee, Mr. Beck voted often to support HBAA-backed legislation and frequently co-sponsored HBAA measures.  Representing Geneva and Houston Counties, Representative Beck is remembered for his tireless work for his constituents, as well as being a leader and mentor among his peers.
