HB 264 Passes in
Unanimous Vote; Bill Now Moves to Senate
|
HB 264 (Wren-Montgomery), the HBAA's Energy and Building
Code bill, passed out of the House this afternoon by a vote of 102-0.
Prior to the vote, more than 100 HBAA members from across
the state converged on the State House to meet with their legislators and
encourage them to support the bill. The HBAA would like to thank all of the
members who took the time to contact their legislators in the weeks leading up
to the vote as well as those who came to Montgomery today to speak to their
legislators in person. There is no doubt that the presence of HBAA members at
the State House made an impact today and helped lead to the passage of this
bill.
The fire service has hired Patrick Lindsey, a lobbyist for
Coker & Associates, to work on their behalf in the Senate. After today's
House vote, Patrick and the fire officials were meeting with Senators trying to
get them to oppose the measure. As great a victory as today's vote is, it is
obvious that the fight has only begun. We need our members to continue their commitment to helping
us fight this fight, and will be calling on you to contact your Senators as the
bill progresses. As evidenced by today's vote, your personal calls and today's
visit to the State House make a huge difference.
Again, thank you for your support of this bill. The HBAA
will keep you apprised of the progress of the bill and other key
housing-related legislation throughout the session.
