Oil Pastel WorkshopLeader: Srule Brachman In 1947, artists Henri Goetz and Pablo Picasso approached Henri Sennelier with the idea of designing a professional version of the children's product. Picasso told Henri, "I want a colored pastel that I can paint on anything, wood, paper, canvas, metal, etc. without having to prepare or prime the canvas." Goetz wanted a pastel he could use to start oil paintings. He told Henri,  "If painting seems to be the complete of all pictorial techniques, then pastel is certainly the most direct. No instrument as the brush, knife or palette interferes between the artist's gesture and his work." Two years later in 1949, with the help of the two artists, Sennelier invented the first professional oil pastels. They had a creamy consistency with a brilliant color palette. The unusually wide range of grays were chosen specifically by Picasso. Later an assortment of iridescent and metallic pastels was added followed by fluorescents. Sennelier also makes a giant pastel, and more recently a new "Le Grande" size in the same color range as the standards.  Oil Crayon or Oil Pastel class will explore the various creative possibilities of essentially drawing with oil paint.  Still life, figures, landscapes, and imagination can be your starting points for using this rich, very colorful, easily blended media with a modern art history.Ages:  12 and up Mondays for 4 weeks: 6-8pm 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 11/28Cost: $75Register online HERECome see Srule talk on 10/26 between 6-9pm at our special closing reception for his exhibition! |

CONTRACTS FOR ARTISTS AND CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS
 Leader: Peter Vaughan Shaver, Esq.
Note that basic copyright law will not be covered in the Contracts workshop. It is strongly suggested that attendees register for the Copyright class, or otherwise have a good understanding of copyright law as a prerequisite for the Contract class.
Nearly every contract relating to the business of selling or licensing art and providing creative services will involve copyrights. The discussion of art business contracts will focus on the Oregon Artwork Consignment law, collaboration agreements, licensing and sales agreements, creative services agreements, commission deals, and agent representation agreements.
Many creative service providers get into legal trouble due to working with clients without proper contracts. Minimizing legal risk and customer conflicts is easier once you understand the basic terms found in these types of contracts. This workshop will focus on both understanding contracts that you are presented by others as well as creating your own agreements.
We will discuss some basic terms and steps that will enable you to avoid conflicts with clients by creating workable, plain-English contracts. Having a clear and well-written contract is essential in conveying an impression of professionalism to your customers. A well-crafted, "user friendly" agreement will protect your own legal interests, while setting a professional tone at the start of your working relationship.
Contracts to be discussed will include: Employment agreements (independent contractors, employment and work-for-hire); Oregon consignment agreements, Model releases, Agency Agreements, Licensing and commission contracts.
 November 6th from 2-4pm
 Cost: $25
