Now Open: Winter Conference Registration!
Although Scripture is filled with examples of the presence and power of the Spirit operating in everything from the actual creation of our world (Genesis 1:2) to the transforming "new creation" of our personal lives (2 Cor. 3:18), the Holy Spirit has often been overlooked or ignored. At next year's Winter Conference in Houston, Texas, we will seek to correct this all too frequent omission. The theme for next year's conference will be "The Holy Spirit: Power for Mission."

Worship Conference
November 8-10, 2011
A special invitation to theAM from Rector Steve Breedlove:
What is the message of the Gospel that is hard-wired into our Anglican liturgy, and how do we communicate it clearly and powerfully? What are the means for spiritual transformation available through Anglican worship? How is Anglican worship particularly tailored to include, and minister to, creative artists? These and many other essential topics will be on the table at the upcoming conference entitled Anglican Worship: A Conversation on Liturgy, Formation, Mission & Art, November 8-10 at All Saints Church in Durham, NC. Join me, our church staff, Mark Galli, David Taylor, Dr. Lester Ruth, Dr. Sam Wells, Andy Piercy, and many others for this conference aimed at clergy, worship pastors and leaders, artists and those interested in ministering to artists.

But at Soul in the City Houston July 17-23, a mission experience hosted by St. Timothy's Anglican Church in Spring, Texas, 66 junior and senior high students left their fears behind to serve God and others.

Any regular at Alcoholics Anonymous can recite the 12 Steps ---- but oftentimes it's not enough to keep them from falling into their old ways. Don Blair, cofounder of Growing in Grace (GIG), a Christian recovery program at St. Andrew's Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, says the key to defeating addiction is God's grace where we are powerless.

John Stott's Anglican Legacy
TIME magazine declared John Stott (April 27, 1921 ---- July 27, 2011) one of the most influential Christians of the century, but he was also a giant in the Anglican world who played a key role in shaping the evangelicalism we now associate with the "Scripture stream" of theAM. We have Stott to thank for aiding the resurgence of evangelical Anglicanism in the second half of the 20th century. He chaired the definitive National Evangelical Anglican Congresses in 1967 and 1977, where he carved a new future for evangelical Anglicans in the Church of England and made them a respected constituency and institution. We also remember him for founding the Church of England Evangelical Council and the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion.
In addition, the Anglican cleric laid the groundwork for our use of expository preaching. He used passages rather than verses and gave rigorous attention to the context and the meaning of the passage as a whole. His books, such as Basic Christianity, have educated and equipped priests and parishes for dozens of years. Stott's lifetime of service at one London church, All Souls, upheld a ministry model placing evangelism and social action side by side.
TheAM is grateful for John Stott's life and legacy.
