Soul in the City Houston

July 17-23, 2011

Soul in the City Houston is just around the corner! Mark your calendars now for July 17 - 23, 2011 and join in the camp/mission week of a lifetime.

This week-long event is for any 7th - 12th graders who are interested in meeting new friends, serving others in the name of Christ and growing closer to God. The camp will partner with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) for worksites each day and come together in the evenings for fellowship, praise and worship, and a message.

This year's theme "REVEAL," drawn from Luke 4:18-19, will consider how Jesus revealed who He was and what His mission is all about both for the world and each individual. Organizers believe that "God is ready to reveal something incredible to each and every participant this year."

The cost is $175/person.

Annual Worship Forum Seeks
New Generation

worship forum

Ministering to 39 worship leaders from across the country, the fifth annual Worship Leaders' Forum sought to instill the value of raising up a new generation of worship leaders in theAM. The theme "Move Ahead Together" inspired many attendees to invest in potential leaders within their own church bodies.

"It's always been important, but as we gather speed and launch more churches, we need to be raising up people from within," says host Andy Piercy, Director of Worship Development for theAM.

Texas Church Supplies Box Fans
for Seniors

box fanWith May's record-breaking
100-degree temperatures on the Texas coast, the Rev. Frankie Rodriquez wanted to bring a breath of fresh air to his elderly neighbors. Caliente Control, an outreach of Living Stones' Church in Sugarland, Texas, collected and delivered 39 box fans to low-income seniors, many without air conditioning and at risk of heat stroke.

Learn how delivering fans touched volunteers and seniors alike.

Movie Discussion Group Challenges Worldviews

movie discussion

When a group of people gathers in a living room on a Tuesday night to discuss a movie they've watched, they're speaking a cultural language that often spans generations. But the Rev. Josh Wilton of The Table in Victoria, British Columbia, hopes the new movie round-table outreach will help attendees freely interact with the films and along the way, experience truth.

Learn more about how discussing a movie promotes a Christ-centered worldview.

Parish Cancels Services to Serve Austin

serve austinEvery fifth Sunday of the year, Hope Mission Church in Austin, Texas, shuts its doors and heads out into the community to join an interdenominational effort called Serve Austin Sunday. It's a continual reminder to the parish that church isn't about what happens inside a building one day a week, but what they do to serve others. "The church in the West as a whole has a credibility problem," the Rev. Perry Koon says. "You change it one church at a time."

Learn how Serve Austin Sunday is changing the way the community sees church.
