BRISTOL, Tenn. - Don't let the sawhorses and power tools on the patio fool you: Macado's is ready for business. The 200-seat, 6,000-square-foot restaurant and bar at 714 State St. will open at 11 a.m. Tuesday, the general manager said Saturday.
The newest addition to Bristol's downtown eateries will feature a lengthy lunch and dinner menu and a full bar, complete with a landscaped plaza in the back, bordered by Shelby Street and the L.C. King building.
Macado's, a Roanoke, Va.-based chain, fills the space once occupied by a Sears department store, and will sit at least 4 feet above the sidewalk - the result of lying along a 100-year flood plain.
Sawdust still swirled over the weekend as workers cut beams to length, sanded booths and painted the interior in glossy shades of mahogany. The walls are decked out with sports and pop culture memorabilia, and a showcase features classic guitars. Two large television projectors and a console for the music video game "Guitar Hero" had yet to be installed.
General Manager Ken Williams would not say how many staff members he expects to employ, but Macado's owner Richard Macher put the number at about 60 in a September 2008 interview. Though the restaurant caters to a lunch and dinner crowd, assistant manager Chris Burchett said the staff, who arrives at 8 a.m., was flexible. "If you want a sandwich at 9 a.m. or 9:30 p.m., we'll make it for you," she said.
