Community Open House for the
Bristol Train Station
DATE: Tuesday, December 16th
TIME: 4:30 - 8:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Bristol Train Station
MORE: Event in conjunction with Journey's End - Come and attend both! |
A community open house will be held at the Bristol Train Station on
Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 4:30-8:30 p.m.
The 106-year-old building, unused and in disrepair for many years, has undergone a
$5 million renovation, returning it to how it looked in 1902. The nonprofit Bristol Train Station Foundation and both city governments jointly purchased the former Union Depot in 1999. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This open house event will be held in conjunction with Believe in Bristol's Journey's End, a local interpretation of the Latino tradition of Las Posadas (The Inns). Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem is recreated and progresses down State Street. The procession goes from inn to inn (restaurants) seeking lodging.
Entertainment at the Train Station open house will be provided by Brandon Story and ETSU Faculty, Roy Andrade, members of the past group, Reel Time Travelers. Theatre Bristol singers will provide music beginning with the Journey's End arrival. Refreshments will be provided (as long as they last) for open house visitors by Train Station approved caterers; K.P. Duty, C.J. and Company, Troutdale, The Centre, Southeast Culinary & Hospitality College, Arby's, and Levy. Gingerbread and hot cider are provided for Journey's End by Southeast Culinary & Hospitality College and Java J's respectively.
Community members are invited to visit the Train Station any time between 4:30 and 8:30 pm or to join Journey's End (6:30 pm at the Downtown Center) which will end at the Train Station. Train Station board members will be available as guides; Tim Buchanan, local historian, will have a display focusing on Train Station history.
Overflow Parking will be available across the street and at First Baptist Church.
The Train Station is currently fielding inquiries about leasing space for businesses
and social gatherings.
A Grand reopening celebration, recognition of contributors and dedication is
planned for July 4, 2009.

JOURNEY'S END
On Tuesday, December 16 (inclement weather date is Thursday, December 18) at 6:30 PM, Journey's End will again take place in downtown Bristol. Journey's End is our local interpretation of the latino tradition of Las Posadas (The Inns). Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem is recreated as they go from inn to inn seeking lodging. The final inn welcomes them in and celebrates their arrival. Our inns are the restaurants on State Street and our innkeepers are various choirs and choral groups. We will begin at the Downtown Center (hot chocolate will be provided) and process by candlelight with Mary and Joseph down State Street. Singing the traditional song and various carols accompanied by instrumentalists, we will arrive at the Trainstation where we will have gingerbread and hot cider. This year Mary will be Rachel Grunstra and Joseph will be John Dreyzehner. Along the way, choirs from Redeemer Lutheran Church will be at Shanghai, Emmanuel Episcopal Church at the State Line Bar & Grill, First Presbyterian Church at Manna Bagel Café, Faith Lutheran Church at K P Duty, State Street Methodist Church at Java J's, and Theatre Bristol at the Trainstation. Southeast Culinary & Hospitality College will provide gingerbread and Java J's will provide hot cider at the Trainstation. The Bristol Tennessee Department of Community Relations will provide hot chocolate for the Downtown Center. The Believe In Bristol event lasts a little more than an hour. Several of the restaurants will be taking dinner reservations and some of the downtown shops will be open. Come and celebrate Christmas in the heart of our community. |
