Great Race June 2011

Hershey, PA (June 11, 2012)  Cruise back in time as the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum at Hershey presents its 17th Annual Car Show on Saturday, June 23, 2012. It's a day designed for car collectors, weekend cruisers, and people who just like cars.

New this year, we're opening up the show to "everything on wheels" all years, makes and models of vehicles can participate!  Also new this year is valve cover racing being sponsored by the Keystone Region Chapter Studebaker Drivers Club.

What is valve cover racing?  Think Pine Wood derby for automotive enthusiasts. Take your favorite valve cover, add wheels and go racing.  Classes include:  young speedsters (ages up to 18), wild speedsters (ages 19-50), tired speedsters (age 51 and up) and Studebaker vs. all other brands!  Rules are basic:  no propulsion mechanisms or moving weights, covers must have four wheels with non-metallic surface contacting the track, wheels can be attached in any manner but cannot extend past the front of the valve cover, and covers must be actual valve or side (flat heads) cover from an automobile engine.  Appearance alterations are encouraged so be creative!  Valve Cover Racer Specifications:  30 inch maximum length, 15 inch maximum width, 10 inch maximum height, 10 pounds maximum weight with lowest valve cover surface ¾" or more above the track surface.  A $10 fee is being charged to participate in unlimited practices and run offs and young speedsters will be just $1.00 with any participating Wild or Tired Speedster.  For more details on the valve cover racing program, contact Tiger Tom via e-mail at tt@tigertoms.net or via phone at 717-832-1116.

The Car Show runs from 9 AM - 3 PM.  A cornerstone of the festivities, it's a cruise-in style car show for "anything with wheels" including antiques, classics, street rods, trucks, motorcycles, buses & more!   Food and ice cream will be available all day and a 50-50 cash drawing will be held along with hourly raffle prizes.  Have you ever ridden in an Antique car?  Here's your chance!  Several local collectors will be providing free rides in a variety of antique vehicles.  All festivities will take place on the grounds surrounding the AACA Museum in Hershey from 9 AM - 3 PM. The Car Show events are free to the public with tours of the Museum Storage facility open by donation.  The Museum will be open from 9 AM - 5 PM, and regular admission of $10 for Adults, $9 for Seniors and $7 for juniors will apply.  Last year over 200 vehicles were in attendance, so there will be lots to see both inside and outside the Museum.

Inside the AACA Museum, our featured exhibit "100 Years of Chevrolet" showcases more than 30 Chevrolet cars from all decades of the last 100 years from family cars to race cars and everything in between.    If Motorcycles are more your passion, our Dusty Jewels exhibit features more than 20 Off-Road Motorcycles from the 1970s!
