The University of North Texas is hosting a Veterans Job Fair on Tuesday, November 8 2011 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm at the Silver Eagle Suite, Union Building. The job fair will consist of an employer panel and career expo. Military Identification is required for admission to this event.

Community Spotlight
The Vincent Fox Forum of World Leaders

Former Mexican President Vincent Fox is kicking off the first of many forums that will feature leaders from around the world and urge students to become active members of the global community. Students will have the opportunity to learns from world leaders experiences and about the challenges they faced while leading.

The first forum will take place Wednesday, November 30, 2011 (time TBD) at TCU's Brown -Lupton University Union Ballroom.

Attention all upcoming summer 2011, fall 2011, and spring 2012 graduates:

 

The School of Public Health is hosting our first pre-commencement and awards ceremony. This ceremony is a special recognition ceremony where the School of Public Health faculty and administration recognize the accomplishments of our graduates. It will replace the graduate banquet. Please note that you will now be hooded at this event and not at commencement.  

Date: May 19, 2012 (same day as commencement)

Time: 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

Location: Fort Worth Science & History Museum

Students/Faculty/Staff: Please arrive at 8:00 a.m.

Parking: You may park at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and walk to the Fort Worth Science & History Museum or park in the lot near the Science and History Museum.

 

Additional information will be provided at a later date.

Texas Public Health Training Center- PAID INTERNSHIP
The TPHTC Governmental Public Health Practice Award is a 200 hour, paid ($2400 stipend) internship that will provide students will the experience necessary to excel in governmental public health agencies following graduation. The goals of this program are:
  • To enable students to be prepared for careers in health departments through applied opportunities
  • To expose students to career opportunities in governmental public health
  • To orient students to the practice, policies and skills necessary to thrive in the public sector
  • To assist governmental public health agencies in recruiting qualified candidates

HSC Student Health Update!!
Good news regarding the Student Health Clinic Laboratory and the UnitedHealthcare Student Insurance Plan.

Students can now utilize the Quest lab on campus for all lab work effective as of Wednesday, October 26, 2011.

United Healthcare is in the process of paying and resolving claims on behalf of students that were affected by incorrectly billed claims.

"Effects Screening Levels: The Texas Answer to Protection from Hazardous Air Pollutants"

Health Scientist, Elena Craft, PhD, will be presenting on the threat of air pollutants on Texans' health. The seminar will discuss the risk posed by benzene and butadiene, current EPA screening guidelines and their effectiveness in protecting public health.

Maternal & Child Health Scholarship & Conference
Realityworks & Go Beyond MCH Graduate Student Scholarship
AMCHP has partnered with Realityworks and Go Beyond to offer a new graduate student scholarship. 

 

The scholarship is designed to assist one graduate student in their final year of study in furthering their education and sponsor their attendance at the upcoming AMCHP Annual Conference to hone their leadership skills and connect them with existing leaders within MCH.

 

There are two parts to the Realityworks & Go Beyond MCH Graduate Student Scholarship, totaling $3,500. The student selected in fall 2011 would receive funds to support their current year of study ($2,000) and attendance at the 2012 conference ($1,500 plus conference registration), to be held February 11-14 in Washington, DC.

 

The application deadline is Friday, November 11 at 8 pm ET.

Memorial Scholarship & Leadership Grant
Katie Memorial Foundation
Katie Evans Memorial Scholarship & Leadership Grants 
 
The Katie Evans Memorial Scholarship supports outstanding work in the field of international public health by providing a one-time scholarship towards a field work project proposed by a qualifying graduate student. The annual Katie Evans Memorial Scholarship (KEMS) awards up to $3,000 toward a graduate student's fieldwork project.  KEMS applications are due on February 15 of every year. 
 
Through KMF Leadership Grants, KMF partners with universities, colleges, and institutions to support student leaders in the international field of public health, as they complete their education, attend field events and conferences, and pursue individual projects. One-time awards are up to $500.00. Applications for the KMF Leadership Grants are accepted on a rolling basis.

Campus Bible Study

We are organizing a new Bible study group on campus and would like to invite you to join!

 

This group is open to all students, faculty and staff.

 

Currently we meet on Friday's from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm but are open to suggestions.

 

In order to become a registered student organization and to be affiliated with Intervarsity Campus Fellowship, we need at least 10 members.

 

We are studying the book of 1 Peter, chapter 1 this Friday, October 
28 and welcome all who are interested to join us.
