Hope this e-mail finds you happy, peaceful, and having fun! As the summer is left behind us and we enter fully into Fall, for most of us time speeds up. Life gets so busy we forget to take care of ourselves and really listen to what we are truly needing. Take the time now to take stock of what you want, and remember to slow down and savor the moment. Join us as we drum and chant for PEACE!
A community is a special thing. We are lucky to have so many people in this area that share the same interests and goals - come out and meet them! It is our hope to strengthen the bonds that unite us in this area. Please join us for an open drum and Kirtan circle where we will make music and have FUN! Our focus will be on drumming and chanting for peace and the healing of the earth.
What is Kirtan? Kirtan is call-and-response chanting originally performed in India's devotional traditions. Kirtan practice involves chanting hymns or mantras to the accompaniment of instruments. It allows you to release the thoughts or chatter in your mind and get into a centered state of meditation. Please bring comforts for the floor, such as a pillow or blanket to sit on.
Please bring ANY instruments you have - drums, rattles, etc. If you don't have a drum - even more reason to come! There will be plenty of instruments to share.
No reservations required - Hope to see you there! Children of any age are welcome, cherished, and loved - please bring them so they can participate!!There is no charge for this event. Feel free to bring a snack to share and ALL proceeds from this event will benefit The Peace Center, a non-profit organization, working for conflict resolution, peace education and social justice since 1982. Crystal Journeying

Dive deep into the realms of your inner self and connect with the spirits of the mineral kingdom. Join us for a relaxing and healing evening as we journey into the heart of crystals. You will be led in guided meditations as the rhythms of the drum and rattle, and flute notes will help bring you into a trance like state to deepen your experience. Explore the clear and healing tones of quartz crystal singing bowls while we open ourselves to receive visions, messages and guidance from another level of our consciousness.
Please bring any special clear quartz crystals that want to come along to use, a selection will be available at Soulutions for purchase should you not have any. Please wear comfortable clothing. A journal notebook and a bandana are encouraged as well as any comforts for the floor, such as blankets, pillows, etc.
Space is limited to 12 participants.
Pre-registration is required for this special event.

We invite you to journey with us in Washington DC as we build community for 4 days of drumming, singing, praying, and honoring our veterans-past, present, and future. The heartbeat of the drum begins at sunrise on Oct 8th with the lighting of the ceremonial fire. There is no charge for participating in Turtle Women Rising and we want to be clear that this is not a performance or event. This is a sacred ceremony offered to promote healing. When you register through the website at www.turtlewomenrising.com, you may select a "ticket" so you can share information about yourself and your group and how you will be involved (attending 1-4 days, drumming/gathering in solidarity from your home, etc). Your information helps in facilitating the gathering.

The Conscious Parenting for Aware Kids group is committed to honoring children, everywhere; to providing them with a voice; to learning the lessons they can teach us; to celebrating their differences; and to challenging society's outdated way of doing things in order to better serve their needs.
The children of the new millennium are here with abundant and amazing gifts. When not embraced by their peers and society at-large, the journey of both the child and their family can be scary, isolating and confusing.
Come connect with other parents and kids, meet like-minded friends, find answers and support for your phenomenal child, and realize you are not alone. We will hold a monthly group meeting with a topic of discussion with activities for both parents and children (of all ages).
This is a non-denominational program, open to All!
This month's topic: BEING EMPATHIC
Many children today are extremely empathic and energetically gifted. Due to their empathic nature, they often have an understanding that is beyond their years. They are able to tap into the unspoken things that are occurring in their environment and absorb the emotions of others. Empathy offers the opportunity to look into others and energetically experience what they are feeling. At times this can be overwhelming to children, and at other times it can allow a deeper understanding of other people, their environments and circumstances. At October's meeting , we will take September's concept of energetic touch even deeper through activities and sharing more about what it feels like to be empathic

Come and receive Reiki : Due to the need and request of Reiki for those not attuned, we will now be opening up the Reiki Share from 4:30-5:30 pm on these dates as a NO-CHARGE opportunity for the community to receive Reiki from practitioners wishing to volunteer their time!
This is not a requirement for those attending the shares, as the share will be over at 4 pm, and those wishing to participate may stay. Anyone who would like Reiki, is curious about it, or needs it, is welcome to come to the Peace Center between 4:30-5:30 pm. Please contact us with any questions. It is our honor and privilege to be able to share the healing light of Reiki with those in our community in this way. Love Donations to the Peace Center are appreciated for this offering.

The beat of the drum is the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and connects us to our own heart.
Making a drum is really a transformational journey into our hearts.
The drum is a part of native heritage from tribal cultures all over the world. This single sided shaman drum is a traditional native drum crafted using a wooden hoop or frame and a stretched rawhide head and lacing. Covered on only one side, the back is laced to form the symbol of a medicine wheel with the four cardinal directions that also serve as a hand hold. Great for drumming circles and meditation.
In this workshop you will be supplied everything you need to create your own frame drum and accompanying beater. While you are making your creations Valarie and Ian will teach you the care and feeding of your drum, as well as how to use them in healing and cleansing ceremonies. We will sing songs and tell stories throughout the two days.
On Friday evening we will begin with a Drum Journey to connect to the Heartbeat of the Drum, and soak our individual hides. Saturday morning we will join together again and start the process of creating our drums and beaters. After creating the drum, we'll celebrate its birth with a special ceremony. Birthing a drum is an intense process, one not easily forgotten.The drum face can later be painted with your Animal Totem or designs. You can also personalize the drum with beads and feathers to strengthen the connection with your drum.
$145 Registration includes all materials for a 14" diameter drum and beater. All other materials will be provided and are included in the price of the workshop. If you have some special beads or feathers which you'd like to decorate your drum you may also bring them.

Class is limited to 10 students only. $50 deposit and early registration is required by October 29th for this class so that supplies can be purchased.
