TROOPER DOWN
It is with much sadness that we report the loss of SFC Christian Riege from the Wildhorse squadron. SFC (posthumously promoted to MSG) Riege was among the soldiers gunned down in a Nevada IHOP last week. He was a right shoulder Blackhorse Trooper that served with our 1st Squadron, 221 Cavalry in their recent deployment to Afghanistan.
MSG Riege leaves behind four children. A memorial service was held Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Nevada National Guard Headquarters in Carson City for all victims. MSG Riege's family has chosen to have a closed burial ceremony in his hometown in Nebraska at a later date. Our thoughts and prayers are forever with the Riege family.
Also killed in the attack were LTC Heath Kelly and SFC Miranda McElhiney of the Nevada Army National Guard. Our thoughts and prayers go out equally to their families.
Wildhorse Forever! and Blackhorse Forever!
