Greetings!
I
am so happy to invite you to Mother's Day Radio's 3rd Annual Day of
Rest and Uplift weekend of events in conjunction with the Women of Color Media Justice Initiative! Mother's Day Radio launched in 2007 with the hope
of creating a space in media for our daughters, mothers, wives,
sisters, aunts and women-friends to see their true value and worth
represented.
We
called on media outlets to provide 24 hours of music that rests from
the misogyny, defamation, and marginalization of women that are so
prominent in what we consider "entertainment."
We
continued the work by standing in proxy for women everywhere who find
themselves victims of violence, whether physical and verbal or mental
and emotional.
This
year we gathered together with our Los Angeles community and created a "Declaration for Honoring
Womanhood" to be unveiled during our 3 day weekend of events.
All
of this we did because of YOU. You care about this movement and have
shown you care about the lives of women and the impact of media images
on our well-being. So, this weekend is for YOU.
We
kick it off on Friday with a multi-media presentation called "Shattered
Glass on the Kitchen Floor." We continue on Saturday morning with an
ocean side circle called "We Honor our Mothers." And then we bring the
weekend to its peak with the "Ladies in White" Benefit Concert,
featuring a line up of AMAZING professional artists!
This is for YOU and your mother, your wife, your daughter, your sister, and your friends. Won't you come join us... |
