 rose of thanks
October 2008
Dear :

October is here and that means we are about 77 days away from Christmas.  Why do I bring this up in an October newsletter?  Care packages for our troops need to be in the mail by the first week in December to make sure they make it to their destinations by Christmas.

After watching the debates the last couple weeks, I have to say I agree with Senator Obama when he said we took our eyes off the ball.  Iraq was not the reason we went to the Middle East, it was and still should be Afghanistan.  With that being said, our troops need our support now more than ever.  A Rose of Thanks is starting to send cards to the troops that are blank on the inside so they can write home to their friends and family.

After last month's newsletter went out, I received a contribution from Bob Souer of Bob Souer Productions in Charlotte, NC.  Bob has been a regular contributor.  Thank you, Bob; it is through donations like yours that A Rose of Thanks is continuing to grow.

The Spirit Award goes to Brian Grady of Kiss 95.1 FM.   Brian embraced A Rose of Thanks from the moment he heard about us.  We sat down and talked about it at the station.  Before I left, there were five people who were personalizing cards!

And then there's Jerry Smitherman, aka "The Connector".   I met Jerry at the USO exodus last year here in Charlotte and did not run into him again until about a month ago at the Marine Corps Mud Run.    Then I ran into him again at Verizon Wireless when I was paying my phone bill.   We talked and he said he wanted to help A Rose of Thanks.   Here is what Jerry did; he approached a local credit union and asked them to print us 5000 cards in exchange for printing "Courtesy of Carolina Postal Credit Union" on the back of the cards and 2000 cards to have at their branches for customers to personalize.   And they did it!  Thank you so very much!
