Greetings!
Can you believe it's June already? In most parts of the country school will be getting out in the next week or so. Please remember to watch every child this summer as you're out and about.
Over the next couple weeks A Rose of Thanks will be sending out over 1500 cards. I would like to thank the following people who have helped put our cards out in the community.
JoiLin Johnson, who took over 400 cards to her church and had them put in her church bulletin.
Dave and Elizabeth Ross for sitting in for me at Bear Rock Cafe and for picking up over 500 cards from the E Hanford Dole Elementary School in Salisbury, NC.
Cynthia Roy for picking up cards from various daycare centers and schools in Concord, NC.
Matthew Bugg, Principal of Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in La Quinta, CA, for having his students complete over 600 cards in less than a week.
The Palm Springs Art Museum for allowing us to be a part of their watercolor night.
The Deserts Children's Discovery Museum.
Thank you, all, for your continued support and encouragement. |

Send a Taste of Home
Deb and Mike Long have been a major part of A Rose of Thanks ' growth. Besides operating Send a Taste of Home, Deb handles all my website stuff. When their son got deployed to Iraq, Deb and Mike kept sending him care packages to remind him of home. Late in October of 2006 their son called and said he felt bad that he was getting all this stuff but a lot of his buddies were not. So Deb and Mike had the brilliant idea to "send a taste of home" to his unit. Click here for the complete how or why story.
Send a Taste of Home sends out care packages with items donated by local businesses. The 2007 packages included a container of fudge, home-made Christmas stockings filled with candy, greeting cards and letters from area children, a die-cast NASCAR remote control car, handwritten greeting cards, A Rose of Thanks card, and at least 1.5 dozen home made cookies per soldier, all packaged in a soft sided cooler.

| Book of the Month |
|
| The last few months we've featured the Little Book series by Jeffrey Gitomer. Here's why: The books have a simple, yet powerful message: if you look around you, everything you need is right there and it is up to you to put it to use. Even if you just use one or two things from each book, your life will change. My two favorites are The Little Black Book of Connecting and The Little Green Book of Getting Your Way. Go to Jeffery's website to sign up for his ezine.

Quote of the Month |

|
"Before you can GET what you want, you have to KNOW what you want and make a GAME PLAN to get it!"
~~ Jeffrey Gitomer |
To our brave men and women who are defending this great country we call home, thank you! Thank you to you and your families for the sacrifices you are making on behalf of all of us.
Now the question of the month: Is the grass greener on the other side? That's a complicated one. In April I left Charlotte and moved to California, not knowing what to expect except the rumors that everything is more expensive. Sure, gas is over $4 a gallon right now, but all things being equal, prices are about the same on everything else, if you know where to look and do not care about the name on the brand. It has definitely been an eye opening experience. June will be a month of decisions for me. I am now faced with the decision of staying in the desert, moving to LA, back to Charlotte or somewhere in between. But whatever decision I make, A Rose of Thanks will continue to flourish, thanks to the involvement of many, many people from coast to coast.
Have a safe and wonderful summer. July Fourth is coming up soon. Please make a special effort to thank a solider between now and then. And, if you like this newsletter, please pass it on to your friends and family! Just click on the "forward to a friend" link above. Let's all help A Rose of Thanks grow in 2008!

Sincerely,
Matthew Hunt A Rose of Thanks |
