March 2008
Greetings!

We are now in the middle of March and have a lot of great things to look forward to in April:  baseball season opens; March Madness ends; the NFL Draft and A Rose of Thanks growing stronger.

I want to share with you an email I received last week from friend and fellow Concord TIPs networker, Kimberly Nelson (Mary Kay Cosmetics).  Most of us know each other through networking and/or A Rose of Thanks.  In my opinion, I need to add value to everyone I meet and share this newsletter with because without everyone else helping me, A Rose of Thanks would not be where it is today.

Do Your Referral Sources Know?

I recently had the opportunity to meet Jack Canfield.  You know . . . The Chicken Soup for the Soul guy.  Motivational is an understatement!  At one point he looked at us and said, "You are the average of the five people you spend most of your time with."  It applies in life and it definitely applies in referral marketing.

I was inspired!  I couldn't get home fast enough to share my new epiphany with my clients at our regular weekly workshop.  I asked them to write down the five people that they'd spent most of their time with in the last four weeks and then posed these caring questions:

1.  How many of them are active referral sources?
2.  Do they know that you're counting on them to help create referral revenue for you and your business?
3.  How many times have you met with them in the last month to develop the relationship and educate them as a referral source?
4.  What have you proactively done for them to motivate them to refer you?
5.  When is your next scheduled meeting?

The reality is that most of us want to receive referrals but we're not spending enough time with our referral sources.  When we do manage to get face to face, we don't typically have purposeful, productive conversations.  It's been so long since you've seen each other that you're busy catching up on what's new.

BLINDING FLASH OF THE OBVIOUS:  Many of us complain that there isn't enough time in a day.  There's plenty of time!  When it comes to your referral marketing efforts, are you spending it with the right people?

Business Spotlight

Have you ever wondered how you are going to get your product or service into the hands of celebrities?  If not, why?  I wasn't sure what to expect or how to act around celebrities.  The staff of GBK Productions made it so easy.  They said they (the celebrities) are people just like you and me.  You know they were right!  When the first celebrity (Beau Bridges) came through the suite and reached out his hand to me and asked me to tell him my story, it was as if I had known him my whole life.  Or, after hearing A Rose of Thanks' story, having Leeza Gibbons say to me that I inspired her.  The other thing I liked about the suite is that GBK Productions provided us (the vendors) with a photo of each celebrity either with us or just the celebrity with our product.

Visit A Rose of Thanks card gallery and check out some of the celebrities who have personalized a card that has been sent to the troops.  Plus, on top of that, there is press there that covers these events:  People, The New York Times, LA Times, and LAstheplace.com, just to name a few.

So, if you have a unique product or you want to take your business to the next level, I recommend you visit GBK Productions and look at their upcoming calendar of events.

NOTE 1:  GBK Productions gives back.  They give a portion of their profits to 3-4 non profits per gift suite.  So your investment is giving back as well as growing your business.

NOTE 2:  I have made a lot of friends from the gift suites including celebrities, members of the media, vendors and the wonderful staff of GBK Productions!

"You can't build a reputation on what you are GOING to do."  ~~ Henry Ford

Recently I stopped by Jay M. Robinson High School in Concord, NC and picked up 145 cards from the Air Force JROTC Department.  The cards are amazing and what some of these young adults wrote as notes to the troops blew me away, like this one:

"May every breath you take
and every step you make
bring you closer to home and victory.
Best wishes, hopes, and love."

This person did not sign their name.
