Greetings!
Happy Friday everyone! This week I was turned on to a music blog called calumcarr by The Upton Report reader Win Hinkle. The link below has 10 videos and a good read along the way. As the author suggests, "grab a coffee - a big coffee, find a comfy seat and sit down" So...without further ado, I bring you some Friday night double bass goodness! And remember...if you have ANY links, news, videos, etc. you want to share, eMail it to me at eroy@uptonbass.com and I'll be sure to share it. Oh...and if you just want to say "Hi" you can do that too! Have a nice weekend! Eric Roy Upton Bass String Instrument Co 860-535-9399 |
NHOP: A Nightengale in Berkley Square calumcarr.blogspot.comHere's a link to sort of a tribute to Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen or as he was known, 'The Great Dane with the never-ending name', or more simply as 'NHØP' done by Calum Carr. Carr was unfamiliar with Pedersen (who passed away in 2005 at a relatively early age) when he started this project but soon became educated as well as enamoured with the Great Dane's artistry. NHØP along with George Mraz and Stanley Clarke have been categorized as "chops" players but this series also shows off his lyrical side. The seventh clip down finds the bassist playing with a musician who seems like a very natural fit - pianist Bill Evans. To my knowledge this is the only time he worked with Evans, playing a European tour which Evans' regular bassist, (then) Chuck Israels, could not make. Enjoy.
