Miguel Del Valle Youth Development Center
Taino Project

Taino Project 3

ASPIRA Miguel Del Valle Youth Development Center partnered with The Puerto Rican Arts Alliance this year for the Taino project. The Taino Project is an outreach program that educates our community about the influence of the indigenous Taíno people in the formation of the modern Caribbean. The Taino project took place during Spring Break. The students were educated on Taino culture and created art based on the Taino Indians. The ASPIRA students researched symbols and their meanings. They also translated the English words into Taino language. Their research influenced their art work.

Taino Project 2

Dr. Antonio Curet, a curator and archeologist from the Field Museum came to present to our students. He educated the students on what archeologist do and how Tainos lived centuries ago. The students were very interested and took part in an open discussion with Dr. Curet.
