News Bulletin February 5, 2010ASPIRA Haugan Middle School HighlightsMulticultural POL (Presentation of Learning) a success!
ASPIRA
Haugan held its 2nd Annual Multicultural POL (Presentation of
Learning). The POL took place this past Thursday, January 28th 2010.
7th grade students were eager to showcase their chosen country on a
tri-fold board and to share a typical dish from the same place, 8th
grade students became actors for a night by showcasing a PSA (Public
Service Announcement) which promoted Census awareness and
participation, and 6th graders put the final touch to the night by
having all attendees practice writing their name in Hieroglyphs. (see
pictures below) ASPIRA Haugan and the ASPIRA Club support Haiti during this difficult time.
Our
school community supports our affected brothers and sisters in Haiti by
putting a series of activities in place to raise funds for displaced
victims of Haiti's recent earthquake. One of those activities took
place during the Multicultural POL where students from room 313 sold
hand-made flowers and raised a total of $102!!! In addition, the ASPIRA
Club collected individual donations and recognized all donors with
their own Pitirre, they raised $80!!!. The school raised close to $500
in one week ! (see pictures below)
ASPIRA Haugan develops artists!
This
past Holiday season was extra special for our students. Aspira Inc. of
Illinois selected a core group to design and illustrate the scene for
their annual Holiday cards. The cards were truly a "work of art"!
Each designer was presented with their own set of Holiday cards to pass
out to family and friends. (see pictures below)
