• We welcome three new faculty members: Ms. Jeannine Lopez, 6th grade math, Ms. Erica Pacheco, 7th grade math & science enrichment, and Ms. Evelyn Rodriguez, 6th & 7th grade computer science.
• We're implementing the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) system, to encourage students to follow the school rules and get rewarded for doing so.
• We're expanding student clubs: in addition to the long-standing ASPIRA Club, the heart of ASPIRA's youth leadership development, ASPIRA-Haugan will host the FEA (Future Educators Association) Club in partnership with Northeastern Illinois University. This club meets every two weeks after school with Ms. Selena Seferovic.
• We're celebrating our scholar-athletes:  On June 6, 2009 Brianna Johnson competed in the CPS Elementary Schools  Championship at Hanson Stadium for track and field under the guidance and training of Coaches Mealing and Jennings.
