Thank you for making 2011

a big year for AAL

Curtis H

It is my pleasure to serve as the 2011 Chair of the United Way African American Leadership (AAL) Council. With your help, we expect this to be a great year for AAL and our community.

As we enter our 12th year as a United Way Palmetto Society organization, AAL has grown to 200 members. In conjunction with United Way's record setting $14.7 million campaign, we also completed our most successful effort ever -- contributing $284,000 to ensure the advancement of United Way's mission to help people in need right now, as well as prevent future need in our community.

Your generosity and commitment during the 2010 campaign will go a long way in increasing our impact and I thank you for it. I also encourage you to stay involved this year by joining us as we volunteer to work on some important initiatives to impact lives here in Greenville County.

Again, thank you for your leadership. Together, we will make Greenville County a better place for us all.

-- Curtis Harkness, Chair

We welcome our 27 newest members

AAL NMC 2011

From left, Cleve Christpohe, Cheryl Christophe, Rich Hagins, Priscilla Hagins and Kenneth Rogers.

Our annual New Member Celebration was held Jan. 27 at the Poinsett Club in Greenville. Eighty-eight members attended the event, which is held each year to recognize our newest additions and to offer members a chance to meet and network with other United Way supporters. Thank you, all, for making this a fantastic night!

Make sure to check out the event photo gallery online at our web site, or tag yourself and your friends on our Facebook page.

Increase Your Impact by Volunteering
African American Leadership members are more than just financial philanthropists, they are "community involvement" personified. Expand your leadership by signing up for one of these opportunities to make a difference in Greenville County:

Speed Mentoring

One out of four ninth-graders in Greenville County won't finish high school. To combat this staggering statistic, AAL has partnered with Graduate Greenville to directly reach students through the innovative "Speed Mentoring" project. This year, we're expanding the number of opportunities to participate and hope you will join us -- because if not you, who? If not now, when?
