Our 12th annual Women Make a Differece: Wear One, Bring One Luncheon was one to remember as Women's Leadership members gathered to celebrate the generosity of Greenville County women and honor the impact they are having in the community.

In addition to hearing an inspirational address from SC Education Lottery Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea and collecting 550 bras and 1,180 pairs of underwear for Safe Harbor, the more than 650 women leaders in attendance had the chance to meet some of the very women they're helping through the new Jobs to Careers - Women Helping Women scholarship program.

Arts & Gardens: WL professionals celebrate impact

Women In BankingWIB event
Women In Banking held their annual "Making a Difference" celebration Sept. 9 at Carolina First at CU-ICAR. During the event, WIB members shared the importance of their involvement and support of United Way with their banking colleagues and watched as local artist Jared Emerson transformed a blank canvas into a spectacular painting of downtown Greenville's Liberty Bridge. The painting was auctioned off during the event with a portion of the proceeds benefiting United Way.

WIRE Garden EventWomen In Real Estate

Our Women In Real Estate showed they know a little about curb appeal during their "Making a Difference" celebration Sept. 21 at Martin Nursey and Garden Center.

Wearing their garden hats and attire, WIRE members had lots of fun sharing the work of United Way and learning how to liven up any living space with beautiful fall plants! Guests were also asked to bring their ugliest flower pot for a chance to see it transformed right before their eyes. Who knew we could work such wonders with flowers and plants!

A Note of Thanks to You

Dear Women's Leadership:

Every year, when I walk into the ballroom of the Carolina First Center and see the hundreds of women carrying their gift bags, I can't help but feel so grateful -- not only for the bras and panties, but also for the care and time each woman took to pick out something special for a "sister" they don't even know. Statistics show that one in four women will be affected by domestic violence in ther lifetime, so chances are that there were many women in that room who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence. The bags and bags of lingerie represent the fact that there is help and that our sisters care!

When a woman in our shelter receives a goodie bag that includes brand new underwear, she is thrilled knowing that she is worthy of beautiful things. And as you know, a big part of our self-esteem hinges on our ability to know we are worthy of beautiful things.

This event blesses our clients and Safe Harbor at just the right time every year. It is uncanny -- we always run out of underwear about a week before this event. You guys keep us "covered" all year!

Thanks again for what you are doing for our clients, Safe Harbor, and for the community. I am proud to call Greenville my home.
