New Botox Competitor
FDA approves Dysport |
The latest news in the medical aesthetic industry are that FDA approved of DYSPORT, a direct competitor of BOTOX. The launch of DYSPORT (also known as Reloxin) in the U.S. as an anti-wrinkle treatment is expected within the next 30 to 60 days.
What are the differences? The usual treatment of glabellar lines (between eyebrows) requires 20 units of Botox, but it will take about 60 units of Dysport to achieve the same results. Therefore expect Dysport to be priced at 2-3 times less per unit than Botox, but in reality you will have to spend the same or more.
There have been some reports that claim Dysport works faster and lasts longer. Does it?
The truth is we don't really know the truth yet.

Every Woman Should Know Her Risk for Breast Cancer Now she can with a simple urine test |
Why are some women susceptible to estrogen-induced breast cancer, but not others? Researchers have found that the body metabolizes estrogens into several different metabolites that can impact cancer development. One metabolite, 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE1), tends to inhibit cancer growth. Another, 16-a-hydroxyestrone (16-a-OHE1), actually encourages tumor development. A woman's "biochemical individuality" determines which of these metabolites predominates. Studies have shown that measuring the ratio of these two metabolites provides an important indication of risk for future development of estrogen-sensitive cancers. The studies also show that this risk is modifiable!
In the simple urine test we can measure the ratio of these two critical estrogen metabolites. Estrogen metabolites 2/16 ratios less than 2.0 indicate increasing long-term risk for breast, cervical, and other estrogen-sensitive cancers. Importantly, nutritional interventions can help raise 2/16 ratios and decrease long-term risk.
Call us to schedule your Estrogen Metabolite Testing.

Demystifying TSH
Read only if you're taking Thyroid Hormones |
The big myth that persists regarding thyroid diagnosis is that an elevated TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level is always required before a diagnosis of hypothyroidism can be made. Normally, the pituitary gland will secrete TSH in response to a low thyroid hormone level. Thus an elevated TSH level would typically suggest an underactive thyroid. In reality TSH is relevant ONLY in the 'pre' treatment evaluation, ie, before adding in supplemental thyroid hormone. Yes, when someone is clinically hyperthyroid, the TSH will be suppressed, but most importantly the actual thyroid hormones will be elevated.
As mentioned, TSH is a pituitary hormone. When it is low, it may be due to pituitary insufficiency, or from full replacement of thyroid hormone, causing the pituitary to sense that stimulation of the thyroid is no longer necessary. Lack of TSH does not cause osteoporosis or heart problems/arrhythmias. Excess thyroid hormones do. Long term studies show that high T4 levels are related to increased bone loss but NOT with low TSH and normal T4 levels.
Barnes Basal Body Temperature Test:
Average of 5 morning measurements of axillary (underarm) temperatures less than 97.8 F (or 36.8C) are indicative of hypothyroidism.

Insulin Resistance causes PCOS
and PCOS leads to Diabetes |
I have attended an Age Management Conference in Boca Raton in the beginning of May and seems like all anti-aging researchers believe that Insulin Resistance is the principal underlying cause of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS.
The elevated production of Insulin that occurs during Insulin Resistance affects the Ovaries, preventing ovulation and causing an increase in Androgens (especially Testosterone) levels. These elevated Androgens levels are an integral factor in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
Obesity increases the risk of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome by approximately 40%. Weight reduction often cures Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by reducing the Insulin Resistance that underlies PCOS.
If you suffer from the following symptoms: acne, irregular periods, infertility, abnormal facial hair, dark discoloration on the back of the neck or underarms, weight issues, gestational diabetes or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), please consider being evaluated for Insulin Resistance and/or diabetes. Simple blood test done at the end of menstrual cycle will detect PCOS before diabetes and its complications develop.

TurboSonic will slim you down with no effort |
TurboSonichas just arrived to our Clinic! It is a Whole Body Vibration System consists of a sonic vibrating platform that the user stands on for 10 minutes.
Vibrating movement of the plate stimulates the body's natural "stretch reflex" which causes a spontaneous muscle contraction followed by a stretch 3-50 times per second.
It also stimulates bones, blood vessels and cells by promoting their rapid development and circulation.
The automatic modes are preset to 10 minute sessions and users can burn up to 300 calories (equivalent to 1 hour aerobics!) just by standing on the platform for 10 min and listening to their favorite music on the iPod.
TurboSonic will be included in Lipotron and VelaSmooth treatments for no extra charge.
Introductory Monthly Membership Program:
$ 100.00 for
