Did You Know?

question mark

You have so many arteries, capillaries, and veins in your body that if you laid them end to end, they'd stretch for about 100,000 miles - enough to wrap around the world four times!

If the entire DNA in your body was put end-to-end, it would reach to the sun and back again 600 times.

Your heart pumps 8,000 gallons of blood every day.

When you cough, the air rushing out of your lungs hits speeds of 75 to 100 mph.

Greetings!

Extend Your Beauty with Eyelash Extensions

Imagine long, luscious and beautiful eyelashes without thebefoer and after hassle of applying and removing mascara. Once applied, eyelash extensions will provide you with longer, thicker, luscious and natural looking eyelashes. Eyelash Extensions are not your traditional fake eyelash strips -they are semi permanent individual eyelash extensions. They are applied directly to your individual eyelashes for a natural look and feel.

With proper application and simple common sense care, your eyelash extensions will last indefinitely, with touch ups required every few weeks. Touch ups are needed to fill in the gaps and maintain the beautiful natural look.

Eyelash Extensions should be applied by a professional only. If you are seeking eyelash extensions, remember Body Focus is the place to call!

Do you have Seasonal Depression?
 depression
Over 11 million Americans suffer from seasonal depression due to a lack of sunlight in the winter. This year, be ready to fight off your seasonal depression and counteract the effects of reduced sunlight.

There are two natural supplements that you can take that will alleviate your symptoms:

5-HTP - 5-Hydroxytryptophan is an amino acid that is the intermediate step between tryptophan and the important brain chemical serotonin.  The lifestyle and dietary practices of many people living in this stress-filled era results in lowered levels of serotonin within the brain.  As a result, many people are overweight, crave sugar and carbohydrates, experience bouts of depression, get frequent headaches, and have vague muscle aches and pain.  5-HTP can alleviate all of these symptoms by raising the brain serotonin levels.

Vitamin D - When your body has sufficient stores of Vitamin D in your bloodstream it will carry you through the winter months. You should be taking between 1,000 units and 5,000 units daily of Vitamin D to offset seasonal depression.

Caring for Rosacea Skin

80% of people affected by rosacea are unaware of their problem. The most common symptoms of rosacea are: flushing of the face for no apparent reason, persistent redness and frequent breakouts.  Sun exposure is a most common trigger,  but you must choose your sunscreen carefully. Chemical sunscreens offer highly protective SPF of 30 or more, but may irritate the already sensitive skin. Physical sunscreens based on zinc oxide are less irritating but have a lower SPF rating.
Smoking, spicy food, hot drinks, alcohol and exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures may worsen flushing and should be eliminated.
It is also wise to avoid harsh skin scrubs, astringents and glycolic acidsGluten-free diet has been helpful in many cases. Serums with Vitamin K will decrease redness and topical antioxidants, such as CoQ10 and idebenone will help to calm down the inflammation.

                Prevention is the best treatment.

How to choose your Chemical Peel?

We offer 3 levels of Chemical Peels at the Body Focus, depending on the type of skin and the condition to treat:

1. Light - Glycolics
Alpha hydroxy acids (fruit acids) are applied for two to five minutes to slough away the upper layer of dead skin cells as well as penetrate into the deeper layers to soften fine lines, promote a rosy glow, encourage better penetration of other skin-care products or even dry an acne flare up. Glycolic peels are no-downtime procedures, with mild redness or irritation the only likely aftereffect.

Salicylic Peel or Teen Acne Peel
Used to  treat acne and blemish prone skin. The anti-microbial properties of Salicylic Acid help reduce acne-causing bacteria and decrease inflammation. This peel has the ability to penetrate deep into the pores, cleaning out comedones (blackheads) and  other impurities in the skin while reducing excess oil production. Like other acid peels, multiple treatments are required for best results.

Mandelic Acid Peel or Rosacea Peel
Mandelic acid is extracted from bitter almonds and works on two levels: as a mild exfoliant and as an antibacterial. Mandelic acid is well tolerated by virtually all skin types, including sensitive skin types such as rosacea. It has been clinically proven to help eliminate hyperpigmentation in the skin, such as Melasma, as well as eradicate fine lines and wrinkles.

2. Medium - Jessner's Peel
The common name for a deeper peeling solution of resorcinol and lactic and salicylic acids, this is commonly applied after a glycolic peel. The Jessner's solution is layered on the skin to treat pigmentation, acne, acne scarring and other skin irregularities. Aggressive peeling and occasional crusting forms within two to four days of the peel. Redness and swelling may last a week or more. Results are visible with new, clearer skin within seven to 10 days.

Tretinoin Peels (Vanex, Vitalize Peel)
The same ingredient used in Retin-A and Renova to fight acne and fine lines topically is applied in a peel. Tretinoin slowly penetrates the skin to gently slough away sun damage, aging and melasma spots. While this is a no-downtime procedure, you may be peeling for several days after treatment. Multiple cycles of increasing concentration yield the best results. Staying out of the sun during treatment is an absolute must.

3. Deep - TCA Peels
In lower concentrations, TCA peels can deliver a no-downtime peel to reduce fine lines, improve skin texture and even soften sun damage. In higher concentrations, we can use TCA in lieu of laser resurfacing to soften acne scarring, erase  wrinkles across the face, and to reveal wholly new skin. Most TCA peels are a one-time treatment and require one to two weeks of downtime until crusting heals to reveal smoother, younger, clearer pink skin. Pigmentation changes are among the risks, and sun protection is a must.
