 My recent trip to Montreal for a Congress in AntiAging and Aesthetic Medicine allowed me to have a glimpse of how Europeans, Canadians and Australians practice aesthetics and wellness. They do things differently: i.e. they inject the patient with average of 8-12 syringes of dermal fillers at one visit (we use 1-3 most frequently), they do genetic testing to determine the appropriate bioidentical hormone replacement regimen, they don't belive in a successful weight loss without lymphatic drainage, proper detoxification and regulating hormonal imbalances. They test almost everybody for food allergies and additives sensitivities and they're finding out that most of the skin conditions (rosacea, eczema), weight gain, migraines, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia cases are related to what we eat. | What are Growth Factors and Peptides?
 Peptides and Growth Factors are the newest, hot active ingredients in a war against aging. While both can stimulate collagen production, each has can give your skin additional benefits. Peptides act as messengers in the skin, providing signals to cells to regenerate. In general, peptides can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as skin's tone and texture.
Growth Factors are also messengers molecules which tell collagen-producing cells to ramp up their output. They rejuvenate the skin making it more youthful.

| Lips Augmentation |
|
As we age, typically in the late 20s to early 30s, we begin to lose dental and structural support in the lower face and experience volume loss in the soft tissues in general and in the lips specifically. As a result, the lips begin to turn downward, fine lines begin to appear along the lip border, and the marionette lines and nasolabial folds become more prominent. Sun exposure and cigarette smoking significantly accelerate this process.
We do have a remedy: injectable dermal fillers. For the aesthetically pleasing result lips must maintain a natural profile and proper relation to the architecture of the face, regardless of the degree of augmentation or the dermal filler used. Please remember the following before having your lips "done": The lips should be parallel to a line drawn between the pupils of the eyes. Upper lip size should be about 60% of the lower lip. In regard to spatial location, the upper lip should be 18 to 20 mm from the nose, and the lower lip should be 36 to 40 mm from the chin. Finally, a line drawn from the mid-nares to the chin should just barely graze the upper and lower lip. Looking form the side, the upper lip should protrude 5-10% above the lower lip.

 Next time you reach for that diet Coke or Iced Tea consider it lethal to your metabolism! So many believe diet soda is a better choice over regular sodas - no sugar, no weight gain. If you do, please read on. A recent study published in the journal Circulation (January 2008) reported diet soda to be directly associated with the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, despite "zero calories and zero sugar". Artificial sweetener added to diet drinks, aspartame, is uniquely and inherently unstable and breaks down in the can. It decomposes into formaldehyde, methyl alcohol, formic acid, diketopiperazine and other toxins. In a study on 7 monkeys 5 had grand mal seizures and one died, a casualty rate of 86%.
We're fatter because aspartame suppresses serotonin and makes us crave carbohydrates.
The next time you reach for a diet soda you may want to consider its potentially harmful effect on your metabolism. Reach for regular Coke or water instead.

| Do you know How to Clean your Face? |
|
Most of us use soap and water to clean our faces without realizing that this may not be beneficial to us. Soapy water is highly alkaline (with a pH of 12) while our skin is naturally acidic (with a pH of 4.5 to 5.5).
 Why is our skin naturally acidic at the surface? Acidic skin helps to fight off bacteria by neutralizing all alkaline contaminants, much the same way the milk of magnesia neutralizes stomach acid when we have heartburn. Neutralizing harmful contaminants is part of the body's defense system. Maintaining the skin pH is vital to protecting ourselves from bacteria which can lead to acne, infection, or irritation.
Soapy water is commonly used to clean our faces and while this leaves our skin with "clean feeling," soap is actually neutralizing our skin's acidic pH thereby stripping away our natural defense systems. It is important to know the pH of any cleansers, moisturizers, makeup and other products we use so that we don't remove the protective oils and acid mantle from our skin.
