February 2008
Greetings,

Welcome to the February issue of my almost-1-
year-old Newsletter. Attending an Age Management Conference last month has brought new info about the importance of yearly testing levels of vitamins and minerals (and supplementing them accordingly), hormonal imbalance causing weight problems (especially Insulin Resistance Syndrome, which affects 80% of overweight people- more women than men - and makes weight loss nearly impossible without first correcting the Insulin Resistance); benefits of taking vitamins D and K; new guidelines for prescribing natural hormones, why we all need to take fish oil, Calcium, Magnesium, CoQ10 and more.
There will be more learning oportunities in February too, but a different topic: Advanced Facial Aesthetics Conference in Los Angeles (where else?).

Are You deficient in Essential Nutrients?

The most common deficiencies of nutrients and vitamins in 2007 were:

  • B vitamins (B6, B12, Folic Acid)
  • Essential fatty acids: Omega-3 and Omega-6
  • Selenium
  • Magnesium
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin C
  • Coenzyme Q-10
How do I know I'm lacking vitamins?

By performing Functional Intracellular Analysis™ (FIA™), a simple blood test for assessing the function of specific vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other essential micronutrients within an individual's white blood cells (lymphocytes).

FIA - Functional Intracellular Analysis

FIA™ was developed at the University of Texas, as a diagnostic blood test for helping physicians assess the function of essential micronutrients and enabling them to develop specific individual treatments for patients.

SpectraCell Laboratories, Inc. located in Houston, TX has become the premier provider of tests for identifying subclinical nutritional deficiencies.

Call us at 688-1900 to schedule your FIA vitamins/minerals deficiency test.

Not long time ago I'd have advised treatment with Bio-Identical Hormones.  However, due to FDA action to restrict the use of estriol in compounded hormones seems like the term "bio-identical" is falling out of favor. Why? Supposedly it is not a "medically approved" term which "imposes false claims" or maybe somebody just doesn't like Susanne Sommers. To be politically correct from now on I will be using a term: "Hormones Structurally Identical to Those Found in Human Body" (HSITTFIHB).

"EPILAR" Hair Removal System
available exclusively at BODY FOCUS.

We are introducing a new European way to get rid of those unwanted hair:

The Epilar System is new and simple way to permanently reduce unwanted hair. The Epilar System is completely safe, painless and was designed for all skin colors and hair types (laser works on dark hair & fair skin).

Who's the best candidate for Epilar System?

This treatment is ideal for those who want to have Laser Hair Reduction, but the hair is either too fine, too thin or too light-colored for laser to be effective. It's also significantly less expensive.

How it works?

The Epilar System works on the hair follicles that are left empty after the waxing, specifically on hairs that are active and in the growth phase. The two gels (Growth Inhibitor and then the Activator) are gently massaged into the skin right after the waxing.

What to expect from the Epilar System?

Most Epilar System users will notice that the re-growth time will be doubled and the number of hairs reduced at least 20% by each treatment. For best results, 8-12 treatments are recommended depending on the area of the body treated.
The procedure will also reduce pain in connection with waxing, increase the intervals for depilation and leaves skin smooth and soft between treatments.

   Allergy Update

We are in the middle of Mountain Cedar pollen season, which extends from December to February and can wreck havoc with an allergic person's life.

Cedar pollen counts in Central Texas are the highest pollen counts

of any plant anywhere in the world.

It takes only 3 consecutive days of temperature 50 F for cedar trees to start pollinating.

Are we protected from cedar pollen on cold days? Not necessarily... Strong wind can bring significant amount of pollen from other areas where temperature is above 50 F.

What is Stevia?
Stevia is an extremely sweet, remarkable noncaloric herb, native to Paraguay, which has been used as a sweetener and flavor enhancer for centuries.
It's available in health food stores as a "dietary supplement."
It's the only safe, nontoxic and natural sweetener available.

Stevia's Facts:

  • Stevia is 300 times sweeter  than regular sugar
  • Has no calories
  • Suitable for diabetics
  • Appropriate for children
  • Does not cause cavities
  • Heat stable and thus can be used for cooking and baking
  • Great alternative to toxic synthetic sweeteners (like Saccharin or Aspartame)
  • Already widely and safely consumed in many countries around the world for decades
  •
    We highly recommend it!

    Broccoli Facts

Broccoli offers a powerful punch of nutrients that prevent many illnesses.

Ounce for ounce it contains more vitamin C than an orange, three times more fiber than wheat bran; as much calcium as a glass of milk, and is packed with vitamin A and folate.

Recently, a study found that broccoli sprouts can reduce redness and skin damage caused by UV radiation by 37%.

It is also valuable in preventing
    colon and bladder cancer.
