From the Top

Dear Friends of Project Managers, Inc.,
As 2008 comes to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the firm, as well as to recognize that this is a time of change and uncertainty for many people.

While our clients and their industries vary, there is one constant: change is much more common than it was in the past. Ten years ago we had to sell the value of project management practices and change management - we don't have to do that anymore! As many of us have learned, change is not episodic, it is ongoing.

Given the current economic situation, I strongly believe that this is a time when organizations, our own included, need to look inward. Look and see where internal improvements can be made, whether in terms of people, processes, maybe technology. We can all benefit from internal self-improvements during this time so that we are better positioned for when our economy adjusts upward.

Within the last year, our messaging has changed and we launched a new web site. The experience levels of our consultants are changing, from their own professional development to our hiring practices. We see new target markets that can benefit as we bring a more disciplined approach and controls around major change initiatives. The value is within flawless execution as well as their internal team being mentored to become more effective and independent.

If you find yourself leading change within your organization, I encourage you to get people engaged early. Get them to understand the reasoning behind the change. This comes from the senior leadership messaging. As a leader, your responsibility is communication that fosters people becoming more comfortable with the change, why they are being asked to change or do something to support the change. And everyone wants to know how the change benefits them and the organization - what's in it for us!

As we conclude our year long 10th anniversary celebration, I would like to thank you once again for your continued support of the firm.

Best wishes for the holidays and the New Year.

Sincerely,

Karen McIsaac
