Greetings!

Success in new product development is heavily dependent upon being able to cultivate advocacy among internal stakeholders.   Most of us know from experience the positive energy that product prototypes and product demonstrations can build for a new product opportunity.

Would you like to learn about a technique that could help you to improve your success odds in building support for new product concepts?  It's not a truly new idea, but the advent of social media does help it to work better.

The Art of the Fast Pitch

In my business, I regularly share new product opportunities that I've scouted in my clients' behalf. Clients typically require me to succinctly provide: (1) a description (2) the opportunity it could represent to their company given my understanding of their business and needs, and (3) its development status.   The clearer and more compelling my "pitch" is, the better its chances are of being considered more seriously within the organization.   Unlike spoken or written words, a product visual or a product prototype can help to generate excitement for a new product opportunity as it helps to make the new product seem more "real".

I've recently begun using a format that I refer to as "Fast Pitch" to succinctly communicate selected propositions to clients.  This consists of a self-produced 30-60 second video clip.  It can be used to cover the topics that I referenced above, or it can simply offer a quick visual demonstration of the product in-use.  This makes a new opportunity quick and simple to review, and easy to share with others within your organization.  It can also be used as a product prompt to allow companies to conduct "quick and dirty" online consumer research.  While the production quality is rudimentary, I believe it gets the job done reasonably well.

I am attaching a link to a sample Fast Pitch which I've uploaded to YouTube.  Simply copy and paste it into your internet browser. http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_edit

I suggest you view it and decide if you feel that this type of presentation could help you to more clearly and compellingly communicate and share new product opportunities with your colleagues and consumers (versus just providing a written description). At a minimum, I hope it will inspire your team to experiment with this technique.
