O Come, O Come Immanuel Advent lessons and carols Preparing for Christmas with the Baptizer Each Sunday during Advent, Christ Church Cathedral Dean Mark Bourlakas is leading the adult forum examining accounts of John the Baptist, who, as the Cathedral Parish Notes observes, "stands at the threshold of the coming of the messiah and ushers us into the great story of our salvation in Christ Jesus." The forum takes place at 11:20 a.m. (EST) in Bishop's Hall of the cathedral, located at 421 S. Second St., Louisville. Each session begins with a depiction of John as seen in various films about the life of Jesus. After gathering impressions and reflections from the chosen film, the group examines the account of the Baptizer in one of the four Gospel texts.
Advent at St. Francis in the Fields St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Harrods Creek has several events in observance of Advent, and all are invited to come and celebrate the season with the congregation. Read more

Resurrection deacon seeks donations for home for Sudanese bishop/hero
Brothers and sisters in Christ, The Rt. Rev. Nathaniel Garang Anyieth is a hero of many  faithful Sudanese Christians. He visited Louisville in 2009 and Jeffersonville, Ind. in 2003. Bishop Nathaniel is retiring on March 1, 2011, and his friends and supporters here are being asked to contribute to a gift for him: a home where he can retire. Read more

New Transition Ministry tool offers easier process, additional benefits
The Episcopal Church Office of Public Affairs[December 6, 2010] The Episcopal Church Office for Transition Ministry has unveiled a new tool that provides easier ways to engage the system, offers more options for the user, and focuses on individuals' gifts, strengths, abilities and interests to open new ways of service to the church. "The intent of the new system is to make the transition process easier and more intuitive," explained the Rev. Victoria Duncan, missioner for Transition Ministry. "Who we are as gifted and talented individuals and worshipping communities can now be more fully expressed, thereby availing ourselves more fully to the church and to God's mission." Read more

Ministry in Small Churches expert to give workshop Saturday
The Rev. Dr. Susanna Metz, director of the University of the South's Center for Ministry in Small Churches, will lead an all-day session on Saturday, Dec. 11, at All Saints Conference Center on a ministry model developed for smaller congregations. Read more

Ecumenical 'prayers for peace' in Sudan By Lynette Wilson, December 03, 2010
[Episcopal News Service] Episcopalians, Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Roman Catholics and Mennonites gathered at the Church Center for the United Nations in New York Dec. 3. The event kicked off a weekly noontime prayer vigil in solidarity with the people of Sudan in the lead up to the Jan. 9 referendum, in which the south is expected to vote for independence from the north.

Persecution of Christians in Pakistan could threaten future of church leadership [ACNS, Dec. 2, 2010] Pakistan's first and only female Anglican priest, the Rev. Jane Shaw, has warned that persecution of Christians in the country is prompting talented potential future church leaders to settle abroad. Jane, who four years ago became the Church of Pakistan's only female presbyter-in-charge, said she knew of four young pastors sent overseas for training who decided not to return to Pakistan. Episcopal Church of Cuba installs bishop By ENS staff, November 30, 2010 [Episcopal News Service] The Rt. Rev. Griselda Delgado Del Carpio was installed as bishop of the Episcopal Church of Cuba during a Nov. 28 ceremony at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Havana.
