Donations sought for diocese's gift Bishop Transition Committee shares its plans for consecration events
The Very Rev. Terry White at Christ Church Cathedral. Photo by Don Vish  | The Bishop Transition Committee has released its plans for the consecration of the Diocese of Kentucky's next bishop, pending consents from the Episcopal Church's bishops and standing committees.
In addition, the committee, anticipating a Sept. 25 consecration, is seeking monetary donations for gifts for Bishop-elect Terry White, taking reservations for two pre-consecration events on Friday, Sept. 24, and recruiting acolyte teams.

A belated congratulations due
Amy Spears, a member of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, was named the Childfriend of the Year for 2010 by the Home of The Innocents. The prestigious award is given annually to individuals or organizations who have been exemplary advocates for children. During her term as president of the home's board of directors in the 1990s, she oversaw the renovation of their facility, then located on Gray Street, and undertook speaking engagements on behalf of the Home to support fund-raising efforts, according to the HOTI's quarterly newsletter. She also lobbied on behalf of children's issues in Frankfort. Seminarian receives scholarshipBenjamin Badgett of Trinity Church, Owensboro, has been awarded a scholarship grant from the Society for the Increase of the Ministry. A student at Virginia Theological Society, Badgett is one of 87 Episcopal seminarians across the country who have been awarded a SIM scholarship for the coming year. Called away The Rev. Dr. Bill Watson, rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Hopkinsville, will be returning to serve in his home state of Virginia next month. Watson recently announced that he has accepted a call to St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg. His last day at Grace will be Sunday, Sept. 26. Dickinsons' set to retire from Bach Society Melvin and Margaret Dickinson, who have led the Louisville Bach Society for 47 consecutive seasons, have announced their plans to retire as musical directors at the end of this season. A press release from the Bach Society said the couple will remain as active emeritus advisers. The Dickinsons are well known among Episcopalians who have had an opportunity to visit Calvary Church, where they long shared their musical gifts.

Disaster Preparedness for faith communities

"State of Uniqueness," a unique career development program for those in search of employment, will be offered again at Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville. The eight-week "career shaping" program, first held in Spring 2009, is more like a process of discernment and life actualization that "considers the person as a whole: body, mind and spirit," say program organizers.

Sisto to play Coltrane at Ascension
Vibraphonist Dick Sisto  | Louisville musician Dick Sisto, who hosts two public radio shows, including The Inner Ear, will perform the spiritual music of John Coltrane with his jazz quartet at 4 p.m. (EDT) on Sept. 19 at the Church of the Ascension, 211 N. Third St., Bardstown. Admission is free.
Sisto's appearance is part of a music series hosted by Ascension each year. Sept. 19 is the concluding Sunday of Bardstown's annual Bourbon festival, so you may want to arrive early and take in some of sights in Bardstown.

Sojourners' immigration campaign, Christians for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, has announced release of its newest online resource: "REEL Images of Immigration: A Film Guide to Discussing Faith and Immigration." It's a free, downloadable guide to immigration films, complete with theological reflection questions.

New children's sabbaths manual From Norton Healthcare Office of Church and Health Ministries
The National Observance of Children's Sabbaths manual is a multi-faith resource for houses of worship to use as they confront the reality children in our nation and communities face and lift children up through worship and prayer and acting on their behalf. This year's manual, "Blessed to Be a Blessing: Lifting Up the Next Generation," focuses on how faith communities can address child poverty. This resource manual is now available for download and can be used as a year-round child advocacy resource or in preparation for planning a celebration during the National Observance of Children's Sabbaths weekend, October 15-17.
