Electing convention next week
Episcopalians from across the western half of Kentucky will Christ Church Cathedral  | elect a new bishop on June 5
at a special convention at Christ Church Cathedral, Louisville. The election is
being held to replace the Rt. Rev. Edwin F. "Ted" Gulick, who is
retiring as the seventh Bishop of Kentucky. Bishop Gulick has served the diocese as bishop since 1994.
For details about the electing convention and the search for a new bishop, including profiles of and written reflections by the nominees, visit the Bishop Search and Transition Committee website.
Videos of the four nominees' are available here. The videos were recorded May 14 when the nominees visited the diocese earlier this month and participated in walkabouts in Louisville and Hopkinsville. Videotaped was the session held in Bishop's Hall at the cathedral.

28, at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home, 201 East Washington St., Glasgow. Baker was well known and much respected throughout Kentucky and beyond, described in an editorial by The Courier-Journal as the Henry Clay of our time. A
former state senator and state Supreme Court justice, Baker died Monday at
his home in Glasgow after fighting cancer for several months. He was

surprise celebration was planned to recognize with appreciation the 58

Interfaith Memorial Day service will feature youth at cathedral
With Karen and Burmese dancers, readings and prayers from Hindu, Baha'i and Muslim children, and music by recording artist Andrea Davidson, Interfaith Paths to Peace, in cooperation with a number of local groups, will host a unique Interfaith Memorial Day Service. The service, which will begin at 11 a.m. (ET) on Monday, May 31, is unique because it honors not only military dead but also civilian dead in all U.S. wars. The cathedral is located at 421 S. Peace postcards from around world on display at cathedral, Ali center
 A display of more than 650 postcards, hand illustrated by individuals
throughout the world with images of how they envision peace, is now on display
at the Muhammad Ali Center, but visitors to Christ Church Episcopal
Cathedral in Louisville also may get a glimpse of what peace looks like

General Presbyter will display paintings at Wayside gallery
Known by many for her leadership as the General Presbyter of the
Mid-Kentucky Presbytery, she now has another public title added to her
name: Betty Meadows - Painter. So reads the announcement of an
exhibition of her work to open next week at Wayside Christian Mission's

Former youth and camp director to return for watercolor retreat
Watercolorist Bates Toon, a name familiar to many Christian educators,
parents and campers in years past, is returning to the Diocese of
Kentucky to lead a three-day "Watercolor Retreat." Read more

Retreat with Episcopal author Sam Portaro planned in August by Mississippi diocese
 The Rev. Dr. Sam Portaro, a prolific writer whose works include the Bright and the Best: A Companion to Lesser Feasts and Fasts, will be leading a summer weekend retreat for spiritual renewal in August in Mississippi.

Inspiring parish vitality is focus of leadership conference
The Province IV Congregational Development & Evangelism network is preparing for the second of three identical conferences on building leaders (lay and clergy) in order to inspire parish vitality.
The next conference will be June 9-11 at Kanuga Conference Center, near Hendersonville, N.C. Entitled "Leadership Marks for Creating and Growing Vital Congregations," it features a wide array of noted speakers and church leaders.

Haiti cathedral's murals could be resurrected, experts say

Holy Trinity cathedral prior to the Jan. 12 earthquake, and gave
Haitians of all faiths a vision of their place in the stories of the

Archbishop of Canterbury's Pentecost letter to the Anglican Communion
[ACNS, May 28, 2010] Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan
Williams, in his Pentecost letter to the Anglican Communion, encourages
Anglicans to pray for renewal in the Spirit and focus on the priority
of mission, so that "we may indeed do what God asks of us and let all
people know that new and forgiven life in Christ is possible."

ENGLAND: Bishops issue statement on women in the episcopate
[Episcopal News Service, May 18, 2010]
The House of Bishops of the Church of England
has issued a statement in support of a committee report and draft
legislation that could pave the way for women to be consecrated as
bishops.
The legislation - and its accompanying 142-page report - will be
debated at the next session of General Synod, the church's main
governing body, when it meets in July.
