Videos of the
four nominees for the next bishop of Kentucky are now posted
online. Links to the videos may also be found by visiting the home page of the
Diocese of Kentucky website and that of the
Bishop Search and Transition Committee website. If by chance, you experience difficulties in uploading the videos or viewing them, please know there may be a simple (relatively speaking) solution and we will be adding to the video site a page with some options.
The nominees visited Kentucky May 13-16 to tour the diocese, which covers the western half of the commonwealth, and to participate in two "walkabout" sessions. (Walkabouts are a series of meetings traditionally held before the election of a bishop to give the members of a diocese an opportunity to meet and hear from the nominees.) The first walkabout was held at Grace Episcopal Church in Hopkinsville, Ky., on Friday, May 14, and the second at Christ Church
Episcopal Cathedral in Louisville on Saturday, May 15. At each location, the nominees met with three groups of lay and clergy members to answer a slate of questions submitted by members of the diocese to the Bishop Transition Committee.
The videotapes were made during the nominees' appearance in the cathedral walkabout session that met in
Bishop's Hall.
The
nominees are (l-r) the Rev. David Boyd, rector of St. David's
Church in Austin, Texas; the Very Rev. John Downey, dean of the
Cathedral of Saint Paul in Erie, Pa.; the Very Rev.
Nicholas Knisely, dean of Trinity Cathedral in Phoenix, Ariz., and the
Very Rev. Terry White, dean of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kansas
City, Mo.
Also available online are a series of photos taken by Donald Vish at both walkabout sessions (
Louisville and
Hopkinsville) and
during their travels through the diocese. Click
here to see photos taken during
Saturday's trip to Glasgow, where the nominees visited the farmers' market
that was begun by St. Andrew's Church a few years ago and has since moved because of its success. Photos taken on the first two days of
their visit may be downloaded
here and
here.
Visit the
Bishop Search and Transition Committee website to find the nominees' profiles and links to written reflections they have provided to the diocese. Details specifically about the walkabouts
and links to the nominees' videos may also be found
here.
Many, many thanks go to Carlile Crutcher, a member of St. Mark's Church, and VideoKitchen for the untold hours he has volunteered in making and posting these videos on behalf of our diocese and its search for a new bishop.
