The Bishop's Transition Committee has published all the needed details about next week's "walkabouts" with the nominees for the diocese's eighth bishop on their website and in a bulletin insert. They provide not only the reasons ALL Kentucky Episcopalians should go but also information about where and when the walkabouts will meet, where to park and what to expect.

The walkabout, a traditional event in bishop searches, is an opportunity for the members of the Diocese of Kentucky to meet, question and hear from the nominees. The four nominees in our search for the eighth bishop will participate in walkabout sessions in Hopkinsville on Friday, May 14, and Louisville on Saturday, May 15.

Advent animal food bank is in need

Moved by stories of families relinquishing pets because of the economic crisis, members of the Church of the Advent recognized a community need and opened the first Animal Food Bank in the Louisville area on May 23, 2009. Because the demand has been so great, however, the food bank today is in great need.

Organizers report that the food bank serving families with dogs and cats has about one month's supply of pet food and treats.  The food bank is open the third or fourth Saturday of each month.

Donations of food or money are wanted. Advent is located at the corner of Baxter Avenue and Cherokee Parkway.  If you would prefer to donate money, you can send a check to the church at 901 Baxter Avenue, Louisville, KY 40204.  Checks should be made payable to "Church of the Advent" with "animals" written on the memo line.

St. Luke's music director to give  Mother's Day Concert this Sunday
From Cathedral Parish Notes

Lisa Lewis

Lisa Lewis, celebrating her 25th year as director of music at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Anchorage, will give an organ concert on Mother's Day (May 9) at Christ Church Cathedral, 421 S. Second St., Louisville. The concert will begin at 5 p.m. (ET).

After a 23-year long detour into the business world, Lewis has returned with great relief and enthusiasm to music, full-time.  St. Luke's choir sang at the National Cathedral in May 2006 for Kentucky Day, and in May 2007 sang at a service with the presiding bishop at All Saints' Conference Center. She also directs St. Luke's Celtic Band, a group of talented parishioners who enjoy a good reel.

Honor mothers
Support Women's Development Fund
Letter from Episcopal Relief & Development president

Today, millions of mothers living in extreme poverty are struggling to provide the basic essentials for their family's survival.

At Episcopal Relief and Development, we are assisting women in breaking the cycle of poverty by supporting long-term strategies that help families and communities become economically independent.  Working with our partners on the ground, our Women's Development Fund provides individuals and community groups with credit and small scale loans that foster small businesses and increase women's earning power.

Support the Episcopal Relief & Development Women's Development Fund to make a difference in the lives of mothers and children in need.

We partner with women to improve their food supply by teaching sustainable farming techniques, providing drought resistant seeds, and making loans for the purchase of goats, chickens and other farm animals.

Please take a moment to remember the mothers around the world who need our help.  Empower women to provide for their families and build a brighter future for themselves, their children and their communities.  Make a contribution today.

Together, we can heal a hurting world.

Yours faithfully,
Rob Radtke
President, Episcopal Relief & Development

P.S. This Sunday, we give thanks to our own mothers for the love and support they have provided through the years.  Please consider honoring your mother by making
by making a gift to Episcopal Relief & Development today.  Thank you.
