News is now available about workshops that are sure to be of interest to Episcopalians and will be offered at the 182nd Convention of the Diocese of Kentucky on the first day later this month. The workshops will explore topics ranging from the poetry of George Herbert to the issues of homelessness in rural and small towns.  Read more

Have you ever wondered if you could pilot a riverboat and barge on the Ohio River? Members of the diocese's Trustees and Council had a chance to learn that firsthand a few years ago when they visited Paducah, and you can have that experience too - if you attend diocesan convention.

'Become an Apprentice to Jesus' seminar

St. Francis in the Fields will offer a free seminar entitled "Become an Apprentice to Jesus" on Friday, Feb. 12, 7 - 9 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 13, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (ET).

James Bryan Smith, author of The Good and Beautiful God, will help participants change their lives and renew their souls by sharing four steps to transformation: change your perspective on your world, change old habits, change from self-reliance and change your spiritual outlook.

Enjoy Shrove Tuesday pancakes and help
cathedral choir

Christ Church Cathedral will have a Benefit Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Tuesday evening, Feb. 16. Planned as a benefit for the choir, the supper will feature, of course, a meal of pancakes, healthy oatmeal, delicious toppings, sausages (plus a vegan option!) and colorful fruit salad, but it also includes "a musical dessert of television favorites." Daring to care about the hungry

Inspired by author Sara Miles's visit last fall, when members of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church heard of her charismatic ministry to feed people as we feed our spirits at the Communion rail, they began moving rapidly to turn a long-term dream into reality.

On Saturday, March 21, if all goes as planned, parish volunteers will staff the church's first monthly Dare to Care Food Pantry, dispensing boxes of food from a station in Saints Hall to as many hungry people as we can accommodate.

Presiding Bishop will speak at conference

Kanuga Conferences and The Episcopal Preaching Foundation have invited the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, to participate in the National Episcopal Preaching Conference in April.
 
Jefferts Schori joins an impressive group of speakers aiming to inspire, inform and empower clergy and seminarians during this inaugural event.

Kanuga, affiliated with the Episcopal Church, is a 1,400-acre camp and conference center in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Hendersonville, N.C. For more information, visit www.kanuga.org or call 828-692-9136.

News from The Hill at All Saints'

Conference offered educational experience

Greg Premo, executive director of All Saints' Episcopal Conference Center recently returned from the annual Episcopal Camps and Conference Centers Conference, which he says is, "is the best educational experience I attend yearly."

The organization has 104 members representing nearly every state, and its national council, which includes 17 bishops, is dedicated to providing wisdom, vision and financial support to the organization.

Music in our churches

St. Francis organ recital & choral evensong 

St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Harrods Creek will host an organ recital and choral evensong at 5 p.m. (ET) this Sunday (Feb. 7).

Organist Robert Lee, the assistant organist at St. Francis in the Fields, will perform  works by Bach (Prelude and Fugue in D Major, BWV 532), Sowerby, (Adagio from Sonatina), and an improvisation on Epiphany themes.
