Prayers, donations needed for Haitians
Bishop Ted Gulick, who noted the Diocese of Kentucky has an historic tie with Haiti, is urging our members and congregations to respond immediately to the crisis by contributing to  the Haitian fund established by Episcopal Relief and Development.

The dioceses of Kentucky and Haiti were once companion dioceses, and one member of our diocese, reflecting on our close relationship, recalled a time when B
ishop Gresham Marmion went to Haiti to assist that diocese when its bishop was forced out of the country in the 1960s under the dictatorship of Papa Doc Duvalier.

In urging us to contribute, Gulick said ERD has made it easy to donate online, and "the good thing is that the money gets there today."

Church leaders: Check that your convention credentials are in good order

With the 182nd diocesan convention slightly more than month away, congregations are being reminded that four credentials documents are required by diocesan canons in order for their deputies to be seated at the annual gathering.

The Rev. Joan Smith, canon to the ordinary, noted that it is imperative for each congregation to insure that their credentials are in order in advance of the convention. In years past, she said, the convention has practiced "mercy" in seating deputations with incomplete credentials, but this year the diocese is electing a bishop and "we do not want to leave any room for a challenge to the election because credentials were in less than perfect order."

The convention will meet Feb. 26-27 at Grace Episcopal Church in Paducah. List of the credentials documents and deadlines published on our Web site.  Read more

More convention reminders
Deputation credentials due now, registrations due soon

All Saints SaintsThe convention credentials committee set today (Jan. 15) as the deadline for congregations to return the credentials form in order for their church's deputation to be seated a diocesan convention.

Registration forms are due by Sunday, Jan. 17. For the first time, deputies and visitors may register and pay
online. Registration and payment by mail, however, is  still an option.  Registration forms may be downloaded from our Web site or obtained by sending an email note to Betty Williams.
St. George's puts the fun in fundraiser

Friends of St. George's Community Center will have an opportunity to show their support just by eating and drinking, and even watching a little U of L basketball if they wish, at Louisville's O'Shea's Irish Pub on Feb. 1.

Between 11 a.m. and midnight (ET), O'Shea's, located at 956 Baxter Ave., will donate 100 percent of food and drink proceeds to support the community center, which has served Parkland, Park-Hill and California neighborhood youth for 44 years. All support for the center helps to fund cutting-edge and creative programming that launch youth into flights of self-discovery. Read more
