The One Minute Manager . . . . .

The frantic pace of life makes many of our clients jealous of their time. They are very selective where they want to devote this precious commodity. Assaults from your marketing attempts can be unwelcome and ineffective. Law firms should rethink traditional business development tools and offer clients concise and useful information that will make your firm a more favourable choice.

Lingering lunches and dinners are being replaced by quick breakfast meetings. Golf games are being refused so that the client can spend the day with the family. Lengthy newsletters remain unread on the desk until they are finally dumped into the recycling bin. Travel time to seminars eats too much into the day; therefore, the number of "no-shows" is increasing.

Webinars have become a popular choice of savvy marketers for our clients that have become time efficient fanatics. The client can sign on moments before the session from the comfort of their office or home. Many will multitask while watching the presentation either by continuing work or taking the time for lunch. They also know that they can easily exit the webinar if it does not capture their attention.

The benefits to the law firm are significant. The worldwide access to the webinar allows the firm to broaden its marketplace to areas not otherwise considered. It appeals to the Gen X crowd who are becoming an increasingly larger segment of the client base. Lawyers that may be uncomfortable in a public speaking role are often more adept in this less intimidating presentation. The cost of providing the webinar is remarkably low. For instance, the popular GoToWebinar service from Citrix can connect you up to a 1,000 participants for $99.00 US per month for unlimited presentations.

Preparing and presenting a Webinar will require developing a skill set for both the technical use of the tool and adopting a unique presentation style. Frankly, this is not likely an area that will be comfortable for baby boomers. Your younger lawyers will embrace the opportunity and engage them in the firm's business development.

Webinars and the capability to run on-line meetings will be an increasing expectation from your clients. Now is the time to be the frontrunner.
