The One Minute Manager . . . . .

Successful partnerships rely on good communications, whether at work or in your personal life. There is one common theme in good communication and that is the ratio of positive to negative language. Important research shows us that the ideal ratio is 5:1 positives to negative.

The outcome of this 5:1 ratio is in the quality of the connections we are able to develop. A negative emotional culture reduces the involvement, commitment and creativity of the person. We become overly defensive. A positive emotional culture, on the other hand, expands the possibilities and we become more involved, our motivation is running high, and creativity is enhanced.

One way to map the kind of emotional culture in your firm is to examine how styles of handling conflict affect personal and group dynamics. We assess the emotional culture of your firm by finding out how your employees handle conflict. This is done through a friendly online tool that your employees complete in 15 minutes. A 10 page personal report is generated that graphically shows him or her how they use the five conflict-handling modes: competing, avoiding, compromising, collaborating, and accommodating.

We then hold a workshop using these results that generates a team understanding of the possibilities of a positive emotional culture. The benefits of this program can be seen in the way your employees will generate a more collaborative workplace and positive culture.

Developing a positive emotional culture delivers a creative, committed and involved workplace. The advantages are truly outstanding. In a world where the competitive advantages of one firm over another blur because the differences between service capabilities are similar, the true differences between firms can come down to the type of working culture that your employees enjoy.

We welcome the opportunity of assisting you in creating a positive work environment.
