Happy Valentine's Day
Monthly Contest
Not My Mother's Journey was written to share the story of a daughter losing her mom to breast cancer, only to receive a diagnosis of the same disease almost twenty years later, at almost the same age. The experience was different from what she thought it would be.

The author, Heather St. Aubin-Stout has generously donated some books for our monthly contest! Simply send me an email answering the following question: "Breast Cancer or not, describe one thing that makes your life journey different from your mother's life journey." You will be entered into our contest. Winners will be chosen at the beginning of March and notified by email.

Study on Religion and Spirituality and Breast Cancer
Peggy Weng, a senior at USC, is conducting a sociology honors thesis project on the relationship between religious and/or spiritual coping styles and the quality of life of breast cancer patients and survivors. Click here to read more about the survey.

Greetings!

My dog Lucy, is doing fantastic! I mentioned in the January newsletter that she has cancer and started chemotherapy. She had her third treatment today and as you can see, she's doing great. Why can't people do as well on chemo as dogs? Lucy is being given Adriamycin, the same drug that's given to breast cancer patients although, Lucy is tolerating the drug much better than any survivor I know who's taken the drug! In yesterday's Wall Street Journal, lo and behold... an article about dogs and cancer and what clues they hold for a cure!

One thing that I love to do is take my dogs for a walk. If I'm feeling stressed out or just need to escape the world for a little, my dogs are always ready to help me out. What do you do for yourself when you're feeling stress and need a break? Reply to this email, I'm just curious.

I'm planning on taking Valentine's Day off this year. My husband and I will spend it together going on a day trip to the beach. We've been having beautiful weather and it should be a perfect way to celebrate our almost 24 years together!

I hope you have a wonderful holiday filled with family, friends and love!

A new website

I recently stumbled upon a new website called, IsMyCancerDifferent.com. The website informs patients about molecular-level testing and encourages them to talk to their oncologists about its potential benefits by asking a simple question: Is My Cancer Different? It's sponsored by a large corporation, but it really highlights the fact that cancer treatment is becoming more and more targeted and knowing your options is key!
What's in CAM?
an article by Rachel Pappas, Founder of 1UpOnCancer.com

When you meet cancer square in the eye, you typically become open to hearing about practically anything out there that might help you heal fully. That's why more survivors are looking into complimentary and alternative medicine (CAM), and as they try it, are giving it a shout. To read Rachel's article, click here.
