Twist Out Cancer

On December 20, 2010, 29 year old Jenna Benn was diagnosed with an extremely rare blood disorder called Grey Zone Lymphoma, a disease that affects less than 500 people worldwide. After undergoing fertility treatments, multiple surgeries, countless scans, and an intensive chemotherapy regiment she is currently in remission.

When Jenna was initially diagnosed her dear friend and accomplished Jazz Musician Sam Barsh decided to turn to music in order to lift her spirits. He created his own version of Jay Z's 99 problems entitled "99 Problems but a Wig Aint One. Jenna believes this version can and should be an anthem for Cancer Survivors.

She is currently looking to film a music video for 99 problems with the hope that this will eventually go viral. Her intention is for International Cancer Organizations and Hospitals to use this piece as a way to help educate, raise awareness and lift the spirits of those affected by Cancer.

Greetings!

I hope you had a nice summer. I've been an avid scrapbooker for the last 17 years, so of course I had to have a scrapbooking fundraiser! Our Scrap 'n Support events have been very successful in the past and I'm hoping that this year's will be too! My friend Sonja at Sonja's Scrapbook Spot will be hosting the event on October 14-16 at her store at the Howard Hughes Mall near Los Angeles International Airport. We'd love for you to join us for lots of food, drinks, fun and raffle prizes! If you can't make it to the event, you can still fundraise for Pink-Link by creating a page through our Firstgiving website. Just use the "offline" option. If you'd like to donate directly to Pink-Link, use our donate page on our website. All funds raised will go towards our website redesign and updates!

Check out this new blog I found! CancerHawk was founded by Robyn Stoller after her husband died last year. Her mission is to share any and all information and news regarding all types of cancer.

Have a great month and I hope you're feeling well and empowered!

Sincerely,

Survivors & Weight Changes

Drs. Kay Bartholomew and Keiko Yamauchi are conducting a survey in order to look at weight changes that some breast cancer survivors experience, and how they cope with them. Dr. Bartholomew is a breast cancer survivor and researcher in health education and Dr. Yamauchi is a nutrition researcher. This is a thesis project of Keiko Yamauchi, Ph.D. at the University of Texas, School of Public Health. We will use the survey results to help improve breast cancer survivorship educational programs.

Please take your time and answer the questions about your body weight . The survey is anonymous!

Your participation will help other survivors!

Sharing Feelings Helps Cancer Patients
Guest post by David Haas, cancer patient advocate, researcher and writer

According to clinical research, more people in the United States attempt to improve their health habits through self-help than in any other way. Support groups have become a powerful force for change in the 21st century, and evidence of their effectiveness is mounting. From cancer to weight loss, people are meeting regularly to share their stories and listen to others.
