Getting a Bright Look for our Skin
by MaryAnn Gervasi-Ramos, Pink-Link member

Spring is in the air. The Sun is bright and the flowers are blooming. How can we get that fresh, dewy and bright look for our skin?  It so easy now with all of the brightening products on the market these days . One of my personal favorites both before and after I started chemo is a BRIGHTENING PRIMER. Most primer products go on your skin after you cleanse, moisturize BUT before you apply your makeup. They even have tinted primers now, so many of my clients forgo their makeup altogether in the summertime and use only the primer!

Seeking Help for Sexual Issues after Treatment

Many women who survive breast and gynecologic cancers want medical help for their sexual issues, but most do not get it. A survey of hundreds of cancer survivors, published in the journal Cancer, confirms that more than forty percent want medical attention for their sexual health needs.

Thoughts about the C4YW in Florida
as posted by Sue Glader on her blog, Poking Around Life

As with most things, the anxiety around something new never quite plays out and the unexpected benefits delight.  Such was my experience at C4YW this year in Orlando.  Unequivocally, it was a great conference for me to attend.

Why?

Greetings!

I hope you're doing well and survived March Madness! My husband and son love basketball season (especially the Lakers) and thoroughly enjoyed the college basketball playoffs and championship. It's actually a little quiet in my house right now, which is a good thing!

On April 29th, I'm flying to Washington DC to participate in the NBCC's Annual Advocacy Training Conference. It'll be great to reconnect with friends and meet new breast cancer advocates from around the country. On Tuesday, May 3rd, all the advocates march on Capitol Hill and meet with our government representatives to talk about pressing issues regarding breast cancer. This will be my first time at the conference and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll tell you all about it in our May newsletter.

Pink-Link is now a member of CABCO, California Breast Cancer Organizations! I'm very honored and excited to be a part of this fantastic organization and I'm looking forward to doing some great things together!

I was recently connected with Genae Girard, who is one of the plantiffs for the ACLU in their case against Myriad Labs and the US Patent Office in regards to Myriad's patent on the BRCA gene. It's a fascinating story and the outcome of the lawsuit could change the face of the biotechnology industry. Genae was interviewed last year by Morley Safer and 60 Minutes. On April 4th, the US Court of Appeals, located in Washington DC, heard the arguments from both sides. The judges will decide the outcome within the next couple of months. Stay tuned!

I celebrated my 7 year cancerversary this past February. Mary Esposito is a Pink-Link member and started a website called Your Cancerversary. Check out her amazing products to commemorate this special day in your life.

Are you an artist? Every year, ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) publishes a calendar called Expressions of Hope. You can submit your piece of art for consideration in the 2011-2012 calendar. I hope yours is chosen!

Have a great month!

Sincerely,

Monthly Contest
I was contacted last year by Dr. Alvin Reiter, who had lost his wife to breast cancer many years prior. He told me that his book was about to come out and he wanted me to read it. I must tell you that Dr. Reiter has a very compelling story about the medical industry and will make you think twice about NOT asking your doctor questions! He's donated 5 copies of his book to our members. To enter the contest, please send me an email and answer the following question:

"Is there anything you wished you had asked or told your doctor during your treatment?"

Click here to read a brief summary of his book with a link to buy it directly.

Journey Forward
A fellow breast cancer advocate, Linda McDonald, told me about a new organization helping survivors move from treatment to post-treatment. People surviving cancer and the health care professionals caring for them may benefit from this new program introduced by a unique collaboration between a health care provider, patient advocacy organization, health benefit insurer and biotechnology company. This first-of-its-kind program is achieving a common goal of improving survivorship care.
