Complementary and Alternative Therapies for Cancer Patients
I have wanted to attend the Annie Appleseed conference for the last 3 years but wasn't able to, until now. At the beginning of this month, I flew into West Palm Beach, visited with my mom for a couple of days and attended Annie's 4 th Annual Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Cancer Therapies Conference. We learned all about natural therapies, lifestyle issues and complementary, alternative, integrative and holistic cancer care, not only for breast cancer but other cancers as well. They served only organic food, mainly vegan with a choice of chicken or fish, and highly ionized and alkaline water for the 2 days of the conference. I felt so good during those 2 days! Too Tired??
Pink-Link Nutrition Expert Janice Baker discusses tried and true tips on getting more sleep! "In my nutrition consultation and therapy practice, one of the first questions I ask all of my clients is: "how is your sleep?" This may sound like an odd question coming from a registered dietitian, but more and more reasons to consider the effects of poor quality or lack of sleep are popping up all the time!"

Repeat MRI Screening for BC Results in Fewer False Positives
MRI screening for breast cancer delivers consistent rates of cancer detection and fewer false-positive results over time, according to a new study published in the journal Radiology.
While MRI can be more effective than mammography at identifying suspicious areas of the breast, it is not always able to distinguish between cancerous and benign lesions, which can result in additional testing and false-positive results that may cause anxiety for patients. A screening exam is considered to be false positive when its results recommend further testing or a biopsy of a suspicious finding, but no cancer is found.

Breast Cancer Cells Outsmart the Immune System and Thrive
Scientists have discovered a new way breast cancer cells dodge the immune system and promote tumor growth, providing a fresh treatment target in the fight against the disease. While comparable mechanisms to avoid the immune system have been identified in mice with breast and other cancers, the study tested human breast tumor cells, putting researchers closer to understanding how the disease progresses in real patients.

Greetings!
The crisis in Japan has made me think about how fortunate I am. In a split second, the Japanese "world" was turned, literally, upside down! There are still millions of people who don't have water to drink and food to eat. I feel a little guilty sending out our monthly newsletter and continuing with our everyday life, while there are so many people that are suffering! Please know that I email this with no disrespect in mind, only to continue to educate the breast cancer community on new and exciting options available today. And I continue to pray for those that are missing and injured and for the survivors to continue to survive.
Sincerely,
Victoria Tashman Pink-Link 310-995-5204 |

I was able to get a day pass for Dr. Susan Love's 7th Annual Symposium on the Intraductal Approach to Breast Cancer in Santa Monica and I'm so glad that I went! The theme for this year's symposium was in keeping with Dr. Love's mission of moving breast cancer research from mice to humans.
